Do you exercise during your period or slack off?

Just wondering what your usual practice is.
I don't for the first 24 - 48 hours as usually too tired after waking with period pain/getting up to empty mooncup etc and feeling tired and weak/achey but have heard exercise during period can make you feel better.

I do exercise during last few days and it does make me feel better. Not wearing white shorts and rollerblading down hills 'woo argh Bodyform' style though.

I cycle every day anyway so still do that. I don't swim for first couple of days. Exercise definitely does make you feel better but is more of an effort. I find I'm very demotivated for first day or two.

I do - it does make me feel better and lessens cramps. I find the last few days of my period I have loads of energy again, probably more than normal!

I do. But I don't get period pains really, and don't have to get up in the night, so I guess I'm lucky! The endorphins might well make you feel better though.

I do, it definitely helps with the cramps. Although I'm not getting them so bad since I started using a mooncup anyway.

I do, I find it makes it lighter.

I don't not exercise, but I am much more cautious and concentrate on form and foot placement as opposed to distance or speed. I'm prone to soft tissue and ligament injuries during my periods - the only times I'vestrained muscles and tendons etc have been whilst I've been on.

I slack off. I cannot exercise the day before due to appalling fatigue, and exercising on the first day leaves me in too much pain.

Slack off. Period pain + horrible cramps + tiredness = me at home with a large bar of Dairy Milk..... although I do find if I do something gentle like walking then that helps. Gym, no!

MinesAPintOfTea · 05/01/2014 19:52

I slack off. I used to try to keep going and often ended up collapsing or vomiting so now donothing on the first two days.

I know that certain dedicated yogis don't practise at all during their periods- it's part of the theory - and that really interests me because I think yoga philosophy often gets things bang on about how our bodies work (despite not doing yoga myself...it's on the must do list!).

Personally I play it by ear, some months I feel like I have been hit with a brick, have pregnancy type exhaustion plus horrible cramping for the first day or two, so I don't do anything then. Other months it's just not a problem so I carry on as normal with gym/kickboxing.

No, I don't change my regime at all.....usually if I have cramps they ease off during exercise anyway, probably mostly because my mind is otherwise occupied.

I have to be really ill to miss/slack off - but no, I wouldn't slack off during my period.
