Is running on the spot any good for you?

I can't afford to join a gym and always have ds2 with me (2) so can't go "out" for a run but was thinking, we have no garden but we do have a little patio area, would running on the spot on the patio be ok for me?

I mean, sure it got to be better than not do anything at all (like now) but will it work?

Thanks

Climbing stairs?

Trampolining?

Pushing a buggy, and walking or running.

Running on the spot would be v boring. And I say hat as someone who uses a turbo trainer most days.

I think it would bore you silly. :)

How about a rebounder?(mini trampoline) They are surprisingly good exercise. You can do that indoors or outdoors.

Fast walking with the toddler in the buggy would be good too. Especially if you can find some hills!

I did this for a while using a Wii Fit. Felt very silly but was ultimately amazed at how much further I could 'run' than I expected Grin
Could be more fun if you have 2 kids too?

What about a skipping rope? They have adult ones in tesco for a few quid.

Jbck · 02/01/2014 23:06

I used to skip in the garden, was a lot easier than running on the spot and did work.

50ShadesofXmas · 02/01/2014 23:10

Blush I can't skip, I never learnt how.

I've got my iPod and can be surprisingly focused but I will take up some of your suggestions, thank you.

Only if you want a part in Scooby Doo. (with a xylophone playing)

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 02/01/2014 23:25

Youtube for skipping lessons Smile

Anything that gets your heart rate up is good

If you fancy running on the spot then go for it

kaumana · 02/01/2014 23:45

Plenty fitness videos on Youtube which I would imagine being a bit more interesting for you.

Nelson Mandela ran in place during his imprisonment - apparently used to knock out 7 miles. If it works for you, go for it. Would still recommend running trainers and sports bra though.

principalitygirl · 03/01/2014 09:54

I'd suggest some kind of circuit including star jumps, squats, lunges, burpees etc. You could run on the spot too. You don't need a lot of space for these exercises. You can do lots of these exercise
moves while holding light weights to make it harder and more beneficial too. Or buy a kettlebell and do kettlebell swings. Get a book or DVD from library to check technique or look on YouTube.

princessalbert · 03/01/2014 09:58

as kaumana says, find some good workouts on you tube.

It makes it more interesting - actually following a routine, and music etc.

Try some Denise Austin to get started. She has loads on You tube. They aren't too intense (although are effective)

Aldi has Kettlebells this week, no idea if the prices are any good though, didn't really notice.

Hello 50, just saw your thread after posting on the fitness dvd thread and would say yes to your question - try Nell McAndrew Peak Energy Recharged dvd, it has a fair bit of running on the spot as well as other cardio and core strength moves. I used it when recovering from a running injury and it helped with toning up.
