Kit for the odd shaped, self conscious new runner

Desperately want to start running.
Problem is I'm an awkward shape, very wide hips compared to waist needing 34-35" inside leg and a long body.
And I can't bear the thought of leaving the house in leggings/running tights.
What options do I actually have?

I'm doing the c25k thing and I'm just wearing yoga type trousers so they're stretchy and easy to run in but not as revealing as leggings. Ok they're not going to give me the same 'performance' as proper running gear will but I'm still very much a novice (on wk6 of the plan). Getting the right trainers/sports bra is more important from what more experienced runners have told me.

just put some sunglasses on (in addition to your most comfortable running kit)

literally NOBODY can see you, it's like being a rolled up hedgehog, you are inviolable

enjoy x

I did my first C2K run today wearing yoga trousers like Tractorandtree. Got mine from Sainsburys: very comfortable and no ankle flappage.

Mitchy, I have a very distinctive nose Grin

I didn't give a rat's ass what people thought of me when I started running, and was wearing a pair of ten year old thick cotton tracksuit bottoms with gathered ankles, a 15 year old long sleeve jersey cotton top, and a bum bag! Oh so flattering... Anyway, if you're a pleasure/leisure runner as opposed to a racer, the only two things you need to really invest in are a shit hot sports bra and trainers. I favour the Panache Ultimate Sports for the former ( it keeps my 30HH/32H's firmly locked down!). I've also recently graduated to some of the cheapy Karrimor stuff from sportsdirect for clothing and shoe horn my size 14 arse and post children stomach into their running tights as they really are good for those inbetween spring/autumn days when shorts are just intolerable anymore. I also have a pair of slim ish straight leg cotton jersey type trousers that are great for autumn weather. There's also a good variety of fitted and not so fitted running trousers as opposed to running tights, here
