Oooh fell in love with a mountain bike today!

Trek Lush 29er

I'm looking for a new mtb and came across this thing of beauty. However it will never be mine because:

a. It is a 29er and I'm looking for a 26 (would perhaps consider 27.5)
b. It is full suspension and I want a hardtail
c. My budget is under £500 Blush

What do all the MN mountain bikers ride? Any recommendations? Btw I'm only 5'2" so I guess I'm looking at a 13 or 14" frame.

I'm afraid I can't recommend a MTB as I am trying to leave mine behind, and it's almost 15 years old anyway! (not very helpful).
But I just wanted to say, I can certainly see the attraction, it looks fantastic! But that is a lot of money for a bike (philistine Grin).

Lovely but pricey!!

A friend of mine who is about your height went for a Kona as she thought they were well sized for her. What about this one? Slightly over budget (but not much) and a really nice colour!

i ride a scott MTB, its a few years old now though. its only a 14" frame and it seems tiny (think scott class it as small), i would like another scott bike but with a slightly bigger frame.

ooh that does look nice :) I just looked at found the 2013 version for under £500.

I will need to visit a few bikes shops too, I think...

I am curious to know about all of your biking ... Do you use your bikes to commute, fitness. Does anyone do competitions for example?

I'll kick off ... I've been a hard core cyclist for yonks, did loads of competing: red bull, enduros, MTB marathans. Even kept it up around 4 DCs by cycling to work. Now I am on maternity leave and the bikes are used now to hang up the rain cover from the pram.....

At the moment though am doing HIIT training at home with kettlebells which has kept my fitness up and got rid of my baby weight. I do miss the bike though!!!

God the money I spent on bikes and gear before DCs.

Wow that is pretty awesome, my BIl is into all that sort of stuff.

I've always rode bikes as a teenager, just recreationally. I got into running about 5 years ago but then when dc4 was born (almost 3 years ago) I kind of slipped out of the habit. Also dh works away so very hard to find the time (I know, excuses!)

It is actually the kids who have got me back into bikes - the younger two are very precocious cyclists and keeping up with them is my aim!

I went along to a training day with a local women's biking club last year and the amount I learnt in one day was amazing. I have been out for a few social rides (and bike maintenance courses) with the club and had a really good time.

Planning Ride like a Grrrl next year and to hit the trails a bit more often - I reckon as soon as dc4 is on a 16inch bike he will be able to manage the uphills better and we will be able to ride together more. Plus he will be old enough for nursery soon :)

Where are you based ... What's the biking like round you? And how fantastic to have a women's cycling club (nothing like that in Kent).

I just muddled along with an ordnance survey map and crossed fingers. My 4 are a bit young for anything beyond going round the park but one day ...... Sigh

Near Aviemore so very lucky. 7 year old ds has been going to a kids mtb club and rides red routes (something I haven't had the opportunity to do yet...Blush)

Was mostly road biking as a teenager and a few years ago I got a road bike and did a triathlon which I loved but, since dc4, just sits in the shed.

Oh lucky you. We're back up at Easter, if not before, so will get a shot at it then, weather permitting.

Detailed report to follow please, including the crucial cafe review!! They posted a couple of cake pics on their FB page and they looked good!

I will have dc4 in tow so will probably spend most of the time in the cafe eating cake Blush

I will have a look at the trail map and see if he can manage some of the trails. Will be very busy though.

mtbmagic there is a ladies bike ride at Bedgebury once a month on a Sunday and a mixed ride every Saturday. I am looking to tag along sometime.
