I need some help to get started on fitness. I'm going to start in the mornings on an exercise dvd and just need the boost to get up and do this.

What do you need help with? The best thing to do is just put on the gear and without thinking about it, do it.

Checking in to report I did 20mins morning dvd exercise & feel good for this. I didn't have weights & didn't want to use tins in case I dropped one on myself so will get some small hand weights tomorrow

Well done, bigbrick. I keep a log of all the exercise I do (date, activity, duration and any other stats), which I find helpful. It motivates me to keep exercising and makes me feel accountable (if only to myself!). Might that help to keep you going?

Sometimes I think people can plan too big at the start of an exercise regime, which can be daunting. Any exercise is useful, no matter how short or simple it might seem. There's no need to take on too much at the outset - all extra movement counts, and you're effectively creating a base of fitness on which you can build.

That's a good idea. Thank you. I'll keep a record on my laptop when I've done the dvd. I'm thinking week to week so I'll do 20mins every day for a week and then see how to manage the next weeks.

Well done big brick.yes log all workouts on a calendar, it keeps you motivated and sort of puts it on your schedule. Keep going. Just do something and give it your all without thinking/planning too hard and before you know it you'll have found your groove. The beginning is always the hardest
