Run or swim? - Can't decide!

I am doing a 5 k race on Saturday and haven't run nearly as much as I ought to have done recently. I want to get in at least more run before Saturday but can't decide on how to work out my training program this week.

I am also having some swimming coaching and my next lesson is on Thursday, so I want to swim at least once before then to practice what we were taught at the last lesson.

I had a good run on Saturday just gone, but my legs are still pretty sore from that. I did nothing yesterday. Today I have cycled an easy 18 miles and am trying to decide whether to swim or run.

Tomorrow I also have the option of swimming or running (could do both!).

Wednesday I will do a slightly longer cycle to and from work, and may be able to fit in either a swim or run, depending on when I get home.

Thursday I will have my swimming lesson.

Friday rest.

I throw it open to MN - devise me the best training program for the rest of the week so I can run a PB on Saturday!

Do you go walking a lot too?? I have to admit to being rather lazy in the exercise department, but I do love walking with the dog. I can walk up to 3 hours a day (morning walk and afternoon walk) and always feel better when I get back. The dog does only have little legs, so I'm not sure he feels the same way!!

I think walking needs more good press - it's the "exercise" without the "exercise"

Thanks for the bump stan. I don't walk a great deal apart from to get to the train station and back and to work at the other end, so about 1.5 - 2 miles in total. And I don't even do that when I cycle to work.

Walking is good activity, but there are additional fitness and health benefits to doing exercise that raises your heart rate and gets you out of breath. You won't necessarily develop much core strength from walking either, which is important for me as I was starting to get problems with back pain before I took up sport.

yes I do agree!! I'm getting on in years and although I do understand the benefits of all the 'other' exercises I'm getting lazy ;-) Never been a runner but have always loved swimming! So that's got to be a good thing eh? Good luck with your training
