Running in the rain

I missed my long run yesterday due to a hangover and now it is chucking it down - it is the last chance I will have to do 8 miles before going on holiday (training for GNR) so should I just go for it it will it be miserable? I am normally a fair weather runner. DH says it will be refreshing Grin.

You'll love it after the first soggy ten mins. Make sure you wear stuff that won't chaff and a cap to keep it out your eyes and it'll be lovely and invigorating.
I do my best times in the rain.

HeySoulSister · 05/08/2013 09:22

I don't mind the rain so much either.....second wearing a running cap!

NaturalBaby · 05/08/2013 09:22

I have been for a run in pouring rain. It isn't miserable - fairly liberating in fact!

EauRouge · 05/08/2013 09:35

I love running in the rain- just stick a baseball cap on to keep it out of your eyes and you're good to go. You can get rain jackets for running but unless you're doing long distances then your normal running clothes will be fine.

CMOTDibbler · 05/08/2013 09:41

I quite like it too - a cap is necessary to stop rain in your eyes. Its still quite warm out, so you'll keep it off your skin by evaporation soon enough!

I would rather run in the rain than when it's really sunny.

Greedygirl · 05/08/2013 09:56

Ok you have convinced me! I don't have a cap though but it is not coming down so heavily now. Wish me luck!

Rain running is good. Keeps your body heat down and once your trainers are soaked it's nice to run into the puddles rather than jump round them. Yes, you too can be 7 yo again.

Don't rule out being able to run on holiday. We've rearranged holiday plans so that dd can get some runs in.

Pan - Grin

Yego - I am taking my kit with me but not sure how comfortable I feel going off round country roads in a foreign country. Hopefully will get some short runs and plenty of lengths of the pool!

I love exercising/playing tennis in the rain. I am a bit odd though.

Lottapianos · 05/08/2013 10:29

Agree that running in the rain is great. What sort of cap do you all use - just a normal baseball cap?

Greedygirl · 05/08/2013 13:07

Well I did it, borrowed my DS's baseball cap and was looking forward to jumping in puddles...and it stopped raining and was bone dry all the way around Grin. But thanks for the advice and encouragement, will remember this thread next time it is raining and I need to go running.

I love love LOVE running in the rain! I run with my dog around the local woods and really enjoy chucking on my old skanky trainers and splashing my way round!
It also helps the dog keep his mind off the thunder when it happens...dogs eh?
Jump in a lovely hot shower straight after, and boom! Happy mummy
