I am going to join a gym next week. I am not that fit and have poor coordination. What would people advise to loose some weight, and tone up. I hope to do 2 sessions a week, and a class if I can.

Also, any diet tips? I have a buddha belly I would like to shift and middle-aged spread has set in.

I am dairy intolerant and avoid as much wheat as I can. I only drink water and herbal tea.

Spinning classes are fab, might be worth doing a beginner class to start with as they can be a killer, or go easy in a normal class to start with. Depending on the bike (and whether the handles move) it'll tone bum, thighs, stomach and arms.

Pilates is also brilliant, will strengthen your core - I was really fit a couple of yrs ago and Pilates made me feel great and really toned me up all over. Your instructor will prob give different levels of each exercise too so you can feel yourself improving.

Prob best thing to do is find something you enjoy whichll make it easier to stick to Smile good luck!

Should have said, you can do Pilates in the gym on the mats once you've picked up some of the exercises (and how to do them safely) as part of your gym workout.

A Paleo diet will suit you as it's wheat and dairy free. Exercise won't make much difference to your weight but it will make a massive difference to your health. Try to build your exercise up slowly, too much too soon can cause injury but aiming for 3 sessions a week is a good start.

You will probably have an induction session with one of the gym staff, get them to draw up a programme for you once you have been shown how to use the equipment.
Second spinning, it is tough at first but addictive. Try some different classes to find what you enjoy, Zumba is fab for the midsection.

Enjoy Smile

Thanks folks. The gym has spinning and Pilates. I will try to be brave and give them a shot. Going to pop in today and join but I fell down the stairs recently and am probably not up to much exercise right now as everything hurts. There is a small pool so a gentle swim to start and perhaps some rowing and joggi might be good until my bruises are less horrific.
