Excerise on holiday

Please help, I am going away for a week to a self catering house with my family and really want to keep doing some exercise while we are away (I am not mega fit but really find exercise helps my mood). I have some weights I can take and a weighted hula hoop but I really need a 10/20 min program I can do each day which will help with weight loss/fitness. ANY IDEAS?

Kate, would you be able to fit in a bit of walking/hiking/jogging?
Or is that not really your thing?
(I'm the same with exercise & mood Wink I get very negative without it)

If you gave a pc and internet access there's loads of free workouts online.
I like Tiffany Rothe - kind of dancy and a bit mad but you can pick a warm up and one or two other workouts to make your own routine up to about 20-30 mins or so.
Will link if you're interested.

I have part one of the shred on my iPad, I do that if I can't run. Or dh has a 10min circuit we do together. But a week off shouldn't set you back too much.

I wouldn't bother dragging the weights and hoop along, but maybe take a skipping rope as easier to pack? Then do a mini circuit of things to get your heart rate right up, with strength training in between, eg

1 minute skipping or 10-20 jumping jacks (but bend your knees and touch the floor between each jump)
10-15 push ups
10-20 burpees
10-15 tricep dips using a chair
1 minute jogging on the spot with high knees
10-15 squats - keep your knees behind your toes! Or a wall sit for a minute
10-20 jumping jacks/burpees
1 minute plank

Repeat at least once. Rest as little as you can manage Smile

Running jogging on holiday is one of the joys of holidays for me - I love a quick 20min jog each day to see the area, clear my head and have some time alone.

I've been advised to do lots of swimming, but will also be using the hotel gym and bringing my skipping rope.

There is a brill app called Workout Trainer by Skimble which has hundreds and hundreds of workouts on it, you can filter by length, intensity, body area etc.

D0oinMeCleanin · 31/07/2013 16:20

Would that work without a data allowance OfficeLady?

I'm going abroad and not sure how reliable the hotel wifi will be.

I might just get my PT to text me a home work out each morning Grin

I was also considering transferring some home workout DVDs to my phone, if you have a smart phone with big enough memory you could do that OP.

officelady · 31/07/2013 16:31

I've just had a look at my Workout Trainer app and it looks like you can use it without Internet but only to do workouts that you have done previously or downloaded and saved for later. I only have the free version of the app but assume it is the same format as the pro version. So you could have a look before you go and download a few routines to use when you get there.

Cheers OfficeLady. I'll look into that.

Thank you so much, there is some great ideas here, had not thought about a skipping rope. I am not a big outdoor runner (prefer a treadmill as I can listen to music) but will give it a try as it will be easier. I don't have access to apps so need to print off a work out I can use before I go.

Also sorry about the Spelling mistake in the title!!!
