I just do it any way..I can always find energy for things I like doing and I really like swimming/cycling/running/weights
coffee is always helpful..or if I've got some funny/interesting podcasts to listen to in the gym

unless I'm actually ill in which case I rest until I feel better

are you finding it tough lately Mitchy?

I had a whole month of really rubbish runs. After starting a thread here, someone suggested antihistamines- my hayfever was never really bad enough to need them before I started running. It made a huge difference.

I think everyone is suffering in this weather though, I'm dragging myself out for a run instead of leaping out of bed like I usually do.

Yes, the weather certainly does not help - even in an air-conditioned gym, it's tough to complete a workout that I would normally do without too much hardship.

Sometimes I feel as if my legs are made of lead and don't belong to me, and so it's tough to get up any enthusiasm to start my workout.

I usually find that after my warm up the rest seems to fall into place and I can keep going - and even though it may be harder than normal, a part of me won't let me stop until my time is up.

Having said that, if one particular work out is proving to be more challenging or even boring, then maybe it's time to switch things around a bit and try something else until you feel more refreshed both physically and mentally.

i agree, it's best to have a range of options, if I relied on running outdoors to stay fit it wouldnt happen due to injuries or adverse weather!

Mitchy1nge · 26/07/2013 13:35

thanks everyone :) yeah is part state of mind part environmental I think - had a couple of strange allergic reactions to unknown things, it's been a bit hot for charging round the countryside like an escaped elephant and so on

I do need quite a lot of variety though, and very measurable goals, for when my enthusiasm wanes a bit - I was wondering about a personal trainer, who might run with me once or twice a week and maybe do some weights or the TRX stuff now and then

but then I remember I probably can't really afford it

This is me tonight, I only did half an hour in the gym and just feel really rubbish, I realised it was because I hadn't ate all day so I've eaten now... Do I go back to the gym and try again or leave it until tomorrow now?
It's so frustrating when you're lacking in energy!
Hope you're allergic reactions are under control now Mitchy and hope you find your energy again soon!!

Yes, this is me too. I've just started regular exercise, in the evening I've found I'm just too tired to start and although I'm full of energy to get on the treadmill in the morning I've found I'm really tired afterwards continuing through the day even though I make sure I'm not doing too long or strenuous a workout.
