A thread for anyone thinking of starting, doing or completed the c25k plan!

The last thread had so many new people starting and working through the plan it was lovely. As well as those who had finished and working towards faster times or greater distances. Everyone welcome no matter age, fitness or ability.

Join us for lots of support, advice and gentle butt kicking of required Wink

Could be I don't know, just guessing at heart rate.

nextphase · 20/08/2013 20:32

I'd vote for it being the speed of the music.
Earlier in the program I ran through one of the walks, and then walked the run (to avoid running up a hill!), and it was weird!

Not sure how you'd monitor heart rate while running on the otherwise low tech NHS system?

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 20/08/2013 20:57

I think it's the number of times your feet are meant to hit the ground per minutes isn't it?

I have done the stepping stones one - it does get easier, honest. Just don't try the stamina one until you've done the stepping stones one a few times!!

Bakingtins · 20/08/2013 21:15

Ran 30 mins Grin

watchingout · 20/08/2013 23:40

Well done tins! Grin

I agree Sarah - it's the number of times your feet strike down. You just run in time to the music. Hard though - I used this just after graduation and struggled. Getting a bit better now, but can't manage the last bit yet

BIWI · 21/08/2013 13:26

Orm - what pace does that give you? So for the first 15 mins what pace/for the next 10 mins what pace and the last 5 mins what pace?

The MapMyRun analysis of my pace shows that I seem to set off fast, then the second km is slower, picking up again and then getting faster in the 4th km. Not surprisingly the last km seem to be the slowest! So I'm not sure I could manage that increase! (Certainly not at the moment)

watchingout · 21/08/2013 13:33

BIWI I think it depends on how long your legs are Grin Cos the MapMyRun measures distance over time so its how far your 150 strides carry you in a minute.

So not very helpful really....

scarecrow22 · 21/08/2013 17:00

well done tins!

also went out to do w9r1 but pulled up half way with very sore (seized?) muscle. lots of stretching and will try again in a day or two. Bah!

OrmirianResurgam · 21/08/2013 21:39

Yes it's number of times your feet hit the ground. I did it again today but according to map my run I only ran 3.4 k in 30 mins Hmm So I may be moving me legs faster but much less far Confused Or possible map my run was inaccurate

OrmirianResurgam · 21/08/2013 21:42

BTW I have decided I HATE other runners. There is a half marathom here next week. So all the running routes are full of lithe lycra clad bastards who effortlessly pass me.... fucking bastards!!! Angry it used to be being lithe and effortless

BIWI · 21/08/2013 23:06

Oh goodness, Orm - you need to find somewhere else to run Grin

DramaAlpaca · 22/08/2013 00:19

I also ran 30 minutes, on Sunday! W9R1 done yay!!

scarecrow hope your sore muscle gets better soon - so close now to graduation...

I reported upthread I've had to buy some new running tights. Well, I will also be needing a new bra - the boobs have shrunk Sad

justwondering72 · 22/08/2013 06:25

My apologies for jumping in with a rookie question...

How many times a week do you have to run for C25K? My youngest (finally) starts nursery 4 mornings a week this year and I plan to start running on at least 2 of those mornings... is twice a week enough? Or do I have to fit one in on the weekend too? That might work out okay - we live next door to a massive park and DH is keen to start running again, so we could do a kind of swap the kids between us at half time thing.

Cheers all, I'm looking forward to joining you soon!

cinnamongreyhound · 22/08/2013 07:33

Hope it's nothing serious scarecrow22!

Well done Bakingtins and DramaAlpaca, sorry to hear about the boobs, mine have done the same it's not fair :(

OrmirianResurgam you can plot it on the website to see if there's something different. We've had a couple of new people join our club and they're slower than me, yay!! I know how you feel but if those you've seen are anything like the people in my club they're really lovely just want others to enjoy running and will help any way they can. Just very annoying that they are faster and fitter and mostly look much better in their running gear!

Went to training last night we did a hill session, full effort up the hill for a set time and jog down. The efforts get shorter so you should push harder we did 1min, 2x50s, 3x40s, 4x30s, 5x20s and 6x10s plus a jog from sainsburys car park to the session, total of 8k :)

Sorry justwondering72 twice a week is fine, I think three times is more ideal but I'm sure it will work with two just take you longer. I tend to run evenings as I work during the day but if its been a hectic week I do run in the morning before dh leaves for work, just take the dog and kill two birds with one stone.

DramaAlpaca · 23/08/2013 21:16

W9R2 completed yesterday evening. Managed to speed up for the last few minutes, which I was very pleased about.

Just the Graduation run to go! Hope to do that this weekend, so will let you all know how I get on.

nextphase · 23/08/2013 22:00

Go Drama

I've discovered a thunder storm is good for running faster.
Although today was the first time a runner has over taken me not that I had to smile when he turned the corner and stopped with hand in heads
So, slow but steady wins the race

watchingout · 24/08/2013 07:37

Munching banana before setting out on inaugural park run. Gulp..

cinnamongreyhound · 24/08/2013 07:58

Enjoy graduation DramaAlpaca!

I've had that before nextphase quite amusing, was two blokes together.

I'm taking ds1 today watchingout, have fun! It's pouring down here.

DH got delayed on a job so had to wait for TWO HOURS after this mornings park run for my lift home. Freezing cold so not amused Hmm not his fault, just very bored counting cars as my phone died too.

How long before results go up normally cinnamon? I know I've got a PB Wink

BIWI · 24/08/2013 13:55

You should have run home, watchingout Grin

watchingout · 24/08/2013 14:59

Ha, bloody ha! I can't walk! Grin

I was 15 miles from home Confused was pondering how to walk and find him (before phone died) but didn't fancy hobbling, red and sweaty, through the town centre.... Only time I've yearned for a HOT shower after a run!

All is now right with the world. Feet up!

cinnamongreyhound · 24/08/2013 17:19

That's rubbish watchingout! Glad you're home and showered now. Ours used to be around 2pm but last few weeks after 5 :(. Not here this week, we around 50mins and dead last. Ds1 enjoyed first lap and whinged from second half of second lap but did a good speedy finish :)

Just had email from Parkrun giving a £15 voucher off running shoes for being a newbie. There's an unexpected incentive Grin
