I asked dh about tendinitis Twasbilling and his suggestions are heat and cold, wrapping it to keep it warm and fluid in, modify movement so perhaps different shoes or running on softer ground, he also said take anti inflammatories half an hour before you run. GP is worth it as they can refer you to a physio but if they say rest then not really useful. Perhaps try on a runners forum to get a recommendation for a local physio? Dh said in his experience physio has helped his tendinitis (usually bicep for him).

Woohoo! Having struggled round the Race for Life in 38 min with the end of a chest infection I've begun to look at how long it actually takes me to do 5K when I'm feeling well. Last time I looked it was about 33 - 34 min, because half an hour definitely wasn't enough and sometimes I kept on going well into Laura's cool down, just so I could see that magic 5.00 on my phone Blush
So the other day I had a look at how things were going at what I thought was about the half hour mark, and was rather taken aback to see I'd done 5K in 29 min fifty-something (I admit to a short sprint to make sure it came in under 30 min!) I didn't really believe it as the GPS on my phone then promptly lost the plot, although I couldn't see how that would make my route longer - if it loses me it tends to draw a straight line between the last two places it knows about. But today I did it again - 28 min 58 sec Grin Does that make me officially a sub-30 min runner? Shock
Also, does anyone know if you can edit routes in Runkeeper once they're uploaded? It would be nice to go back and fill in the bit where the GPS lost me, but I can't figure out how, short of deleting the run and entering the entire route again manually, which is a pain.
Right, think I've earned some Wine now Smile

wem · 11/08/2013 19:34

Sorry you've not been well nextphase. I've had that fear a couple of times recently - that if I've had a rubbish few days and haven't been out it will all have disappeared and I'll be back to struggling to run for 60 seconds.

wem · 11/08/2013 19:36

Well done Sarah, I think that second sub-30 min run definitely confirms it :) Congratulations!

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 11/08/2013 20:55

nextphase, I think we all have that fear - that a few days without a "proper" run and we'll be back to square one. I know I have. But I am just beginning to see that actually it's not the case... I think it's that chimp again Angry Obviously, a long time without a run will have an effect, but it doesn't just all disappear in a few days, it really doesn't! cinnamon or someone more experienced might be able to comment, but I think once you've made it as far as graduation it will take quite a while before you lose it all. Remember it's all in your head, so don't let that chimp out Grin And you are allowed to be ill, just look after yourself. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

DramaAlpaca · 11/08/2013 22:08

W8R1 completed this afternoon. Snail pace as usual, but I managed without any problem. I have to admit that I was relieved when the podcast didn't suggest a sprint for the last sixty seconds!

I think I have finally tamed my chimp. I was elated and a bit emotional after that run, because I finally realised that it's not if I graduate C25K, it's when I graduate.

And that is a really good feeling. Roll on the next five runs!

cinnamongreyhound · 12/08/2013 08:28

Well done SarahWithAFringeOnTop and DramaAlpaca, sounds like you're both doing well!

Not that I feel massively qualified but you'll be fine nextphase! When I broke me foot I had 8 weeks off (was 6 months after I finished) and started back doing 10mins because of my foot but was quickly back to 30 once I knew it could handle it. It's something I think everyone worries about but you'll be fine. When I hurt my leg in march I definitely lost speed but I could still run for 30min + once my leg allowed. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Doing another doggy run tonight, more nervous than I was last week!

watchingout · 12/08/2013 09:29

Well done Sarah - huge achievement Grin

Drama - did you really just say " roll on the next five runs"?! Bet you never imagined saying that 8 weeks ago!!! Wink So close...

DramaAlpaca · 12/08/2013 09:43

watchingout - I know! It's hard to believe isn't it?

Almost there...

trickydickie · 12/08/2013 12:06

Hi everyone. nextphase hope you are back to full health soon.

I just can't control that chimp when out doing runs myself. I have been stuck on w8 for nearly two weeks. First two attempts myself did about 15/18 mins. Then my friend joined me and I did the 28 mins. Next two runs myself and managed 18/20 mins, just couldn't get up there to 28 mins.

Went out last night with my friend and managed the 28 mins.

Just keep telling myself that at least I am out there every second day even if I am not managing the full time.

Well done everyone else. You all seem to manage to complete the runs.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/08/2013 12:39

That's definitely a mental barrier trickydickie, if you can do it with your friend then you CAN do it!!! Could it a pacing issue? She paces you so you can do it or just that she keeps your mind off the running.

finished w7 this morn. Def toughest run yet, partly due to 5.5 hrs of sleep with three dc takings zzz Poss more pleased finished this one than "easier" ones. Also had tight quad/hip mis le again, just below hip.bone, then had impulse to stretch glutes on opp side of pelvis (iyswim) and hugely helped. was a revelation

LauraPashley · 12/08/2013 22:01

Wow 28 mins sounds very far away at the moment! But I am plodding on! Not liking the chimp analogy though; I felt a bit fed up at the start of my last run, imagined a little chimp in a box, the spent the rest of the run feeling upset about the poor chimp!

cinnamongreyhound · 12/08/2013 22:18

Did 8k tonight with doggies, peanut nearly died but was good fun! Need to get myself some new routes but I'm so worried about getting lost when on my own and don't really feel I can invite myself with others.

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 12/08/2013 22:27

Good going everyone. 8K, cinnamon, that's great. I was supposed to do a 6.4K today, after only 3.2 yesterday. Felt really rubbish all day though (PMT, unexpectedly), and had baking to do for DD's birthday party, so have postponed till the morning.

6.4 sounds very scary, and involves a big hill whichever route I go for.

We've broken the dog, we think. He had to be dragged around DH's route on Sunday and then REFUSED to come with me last night. He put his head on his paws and wouldn't stand up when I put my trainers on. No road running for him today and he seemed okay off lead.

amigababy · 13/08/2013 09:18

Laura on my longer runs I had a whole host of chimps standing by the metaphorical finishing stretch, cheering me on. There's some odd stuff in our heads when we're out running Grin

hairtwiddler · 13/08/2013 09:49

I have running envy. Still ill and now breathless and wheezing so off to the GP. I'm supposed to go camping for two weeks on Friday!

LizzieVereker · 13/08/2013 13:09

Hi everyone, I'm still here and did W4 R1 today, I'm running every day rather than 3x a week, so am getting through the programme quite quickly. I still can't believe I'm keeping up, and feel brilliant.

Your poor broken dog Judy that did make me chuckle! I hope he's feeling better.

OrmirianResurgam · 13/08/2013 13:12

Hello. Back again Grin Just got to week 9. Hope I can keep it up long enough to get used to 30 minutes solid running before my tendonitis gets too bad......

nextphase · 13/08/2013 13:12

Hair hope the GP is helpful. I've been knocked sideways by something these past 2 weeks. I imagine with asthma it is much worse.

Cinnamon any chance of doing parts of it as a dog walk to get the hang of the longer route before running it? ie part the right way round, and part the wrong way? Not got my head round further distances yet! Still pottering round town!

hairtwiddler · 13/08/2013 13:35

I don't normally wheeze but the doc thinks I may have late onset asthma! Got steroids and antibiotics and no longer feeling like I'm making a big deal out of a wee cold! I have to go back in six weeks for lung function tests. Thankfully doc thinks the meds will do the trick so I can go on my camping holiday. Running will have to take a back seat for now. I may be going back a few weeks and graduate all over again.

Middle of summer and I get a nasty chest infection. Never was one to do things by halves.

Keep running folks, I'll be thinking of you all. We go to Holland on Friday so I'll catch up when we get back.

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 13/08/2013 16:02

That's a shame, hairtwiddler, it would have been nice to run in the flatlands of Holland! Hope you're better soon.

Dog seems fully recovered, fortunately. He ran with DH for four miles this morning and then decided he wanted to come with me too.

I did four miles! Longest ever. 6.6km or something like that. I'm still including warm up and cool down in the total distance though.

watchingout · 13/08/2013 16:12

I've just had a nice email from MapmyRun telling me I've earned three medals for my last run Smile not sure how or why? I set a little course a few weeks ago on a regular route, and I think I'm improving my time. Off to set a few more easy challenges on other routes.

Easily pleased me ....

scarecrow22 · 13/08/2013 20:48

Help me here: left my (DH's) iTouch at home and away with friends for a few days: starting w8 tomorrow, so what should I be doing? Is it 5m walk, 28m run and 5m walk? Any other things/tips I should know?
Thanks

watchingout · 13/08/2013 21:07

Yes scarecrow - a simple (!) 28 mins Grin
