I have to admit I did put it on a incline (weeny one Grin) when I did mine.

AntoinetteCosway · 01/08/2013 13:14

Right, next time I'm at the gym, incline it is!

NoBusinessLikeSnowBusiness · 01/08/2013 15:45

Hello everyone. I've posted on other c25k threads before but not here. I've had 2.5 weeks off running and don't see me being able to do it until I'm on holiday next week so this is virtual running by proxy reading the posts.

Dingle, I was I inspired by your post to join in because the exact same thing has happened to me. I've always had rubbish nails but they've been amazing since about three months into it. (Started in Feb). It was before the sun arrived too so can't explain it that way. Long may it last (as long as I actually get back out running soon!).

cinnamongreyhound · 01/08/2013 21:00

I don't think running on a treadmill is cheating at all! From what I understand it is easier but it will depend how hard you push yourself so you can make it as easy or hard as you like :)

OP posts:
scarecrow22 · 01/08/2013 21:27

Antoinette: I think an incline of 1 mimics running outside, approximately; I would recommend 1.5 from my old treadmill days.. Funnily I only run outside now but plan to start doing one run a week n the TM because it is so eerily flat around me!

Dingle · 01/08/2013 21:47

Oh dear, w9r1 and it was a disaster! I didn't feel right to start with and only managed to plod for 15 mins before I had to notch it down to 4.8mph. I was just so hot and heady, felt quite sicky too. I kept going to 38 mins and managed the 3.1 miles...but feel that I have failed for the first time. Sad

nextphase · 01/08/2013 22:00

Dingle how have you failed? You ran for well over 30 mins??? 30mins was the target at the start of the C25k? Sounds like a pass to me.

I decided w9r2 I was going to go faster - I've been able to pick up the pace for the final few mins of the last few runs, so I went faster, and slowed to a walk for 10 paces occasionally. I covered an extra half km nearly, but some of it was walking.

The car when I started it this evening said 43 deg. I'm sure some of that was where it was parked, but its been hot, and the air heavy today.

Got guests this weekend, so not sure if I'll be able to get out before Sun. Shall we finish this together?

LizzieVereker · 01/08/2013 22:10

Hi there- I've just started and am on W1 run 3, and am really enjoying it. Could I just ask for some advice, please? I have no level of fitness whatsoever, so please bear with me, I'm a bit embarassed about my questions Blush
Firstly, I found today that I was not quite able to run for the last few seconds of each run - would it be better to repeat this run until I can do it comfortably, or should I plow on with the next one?

Secondly, my little stumpy legs are v stiff and sore - is it OK to keep going and run wobble it off, or should I rest them for a day? I'm also cycling in the afternoons with my DS, but weirdly this doesn't hurt.

watchingout · 01/08/2013 22:39

Dingle - don't beat yourself up - you did 5k!! Grin And everyone can have an "off" day. Sounds like you could maybe do with lots of water or wine.

welcome Lizzie! Congratulations on starting. A few seconds doesn't count, well not to me Wink I'd keep onto the next stage. The whole program is designed to keep taxing you a little bit more each time. Are you stretching lots when you finish? If you are running on the road (as opposed to a treadmill) it's really good to stretch the front of your lower leg by bending your knee and pushing the toe of your trainer into the ground. Not sure if I've described that very well - help me someone! It's good for the shins anyway

watchingout · 01/08/2013 22:46

I've found my next challenge Grin I was kicking myself that I hadn't done a Race for Life this year (ok, or last year, or the year before...) but I looked last night and there is going to be a Twilight one near me on a nice flat course in October Grin

I'm hoping to get a team from work together, but if not, then sod it, I shall go by myself! So now I have to keep running and not let the last nine weeks go to waste.

Graduation run tomorrow morning....

LizzieVereker · 01/08/2013 22:51

Oh thank you watchingout ,I was hoping someone would say keep going! I have been trying to stretch but have no ideas how to do it properly, just been randomly lunging about! So your advice is really helpful.

I'm can't believe how much I'm enjoying it! I've never been sporty, I can't believe it's me doing it. I'm in awe of those of you who are in the later weeks, and found Broodzilla's earlier post really motivating.

LizzieVereker · 01/08/2013 22:54

Well, I'll think of you doing your graduation run watching ,when I set out tomorrow morning - that will inspire me some more! I hope you enjoy it. Grin

pennygallops · 02/08/2013 03:27

Hi ladies, it seems that you are all out there getting some running done. My wi-fi connection has been sporadic in the last few days, but lots of you are out there running.
I ran on a treadmill tonight for the first time, did 3.1miles in just about 33mins, but it was very hot even in the Air Con. I quite like the treadmill, I can see it is a bit easier but you can set little pace challenges for yourself. I can see it being good for interval training. Glad I had my iPod though or it might have got boring.
Next run will be mine and DS's 'parkrun' on a stretch on of the South Carolina coast.
I've spotted a running shop close to our current hotel and it's a tax free weekend - might just have to take a peek. Grin

watchingout · 02/08/2013 06:27

Just googled the stretches for you here
I've never done the lying down ones, so learnt something new this morning Grin I also can't find the shin one quickly but it was linked up thread

Now to get my kit on for my first ever run in rain...

cinnamongreyhound · 02/08/2013 07:41

Welcome LizzieVereker!!!! I'd move on personally, but try to do those last few seconds if you can its the end when it's hard that you add the most fitness :) plus a lot of the time it's your mind not your body that can't do it!

Doesn't sound like a fail to me at all Dingle, sounds like a hard run that you made it all the way through and still covered a good distance Grin

You were in good company watchingout I met my friend at 6.20 and we did 6.5k this morning with the mutt :) he's now slowly dying on the bed and I am trying to get up the motivation to shower as my first customer arrives in 20mins!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/08/2013 07:42

And hello from over here pennygallops have a fab park run and don't spend too much Wink

OP posts:
watchingout · 02/08/2013 07:55

It didn't rain and I've finished the program Grin I treated myself to a new off-road route which I have been saving for this occasion. If you saw Top Gear last Sunday, the bit with the caravans where they took them through a ford - I ran that this morning Grin

Just coming to the very end of the drove I was shouting in my head "yay! I've run the entire drove road" and twisted my ankle Confused told you I was clumsy. Really cross with myself but told myself it was shock, not pain, and ran on to finish my full 5 k. Think it was about 32 mins as I had to double back and forth in front of the house to get the magic number 5 to come up on screen!

Thank you all for inspiration, advice and encouragement - kept me going through it all Grin Now where's the Brew?

jchocchip · 02/08/2013 07:59

Yay well done watchingout Flowers and Brew

jchocchip · 02/08/2013 08:00

Hope the ankle isn't too serious...

cinnamongreyhound · 02/08/2013 08:04

That's great, well done watchingout!!!

elliemummaroos · 02/08/2013 08:40

W1r3 complete!! I was lying in bed debating whether to go or leave it til later and then heard thunder. Decided to go to the gym and do it on the treadmill instead. It did feel a bit easier but I must have been going slightly slower because I didn't go quite as far (but not significantly different). Feeling amazing! Also felt like I had more to give to ready to gear it up slightly next week (which I guess is the point?!)

Ellie xXx

nextphase · 02/08/2013 09:00

Well done watching

What time is the party starting to night? think your going to need Wine to dull any ankle twinges.

Will you let me join you? I've done w9r1 and 2. r3 looks like Sunday, unless I get the stupid list of jobs to do before visitors arrive done really quickly, in which case I'll run tonight!

Very envious Penny. Enjoy.

Well done Ellie. Yep, the whole point seems to be it is set up to know when you should be ready to push yourself that little big harder.

Lizzie the stretch I find really helps is standing on one leg, and bring the other heal right up to your bum. I'd suggest moving on, but if your really down to the last few seconds, can you keep going? Or, do you need to slow the runnign down a tiny bit, so you can get to the end? Someone on the old thread told me it doesn't matter if you run slower than you walk, it is a different movement, and you should run, however slowly it needs to be to get you to the end of the time.

trickydickie · 02/08/2013 10:07

Well done Lizzie on starting.

Ellie - I know nothing about treadmills so can't offer you advice. Though I have a treadmill in my room. It has turned out to be the most expensive coat hanger we have ever had!

Dingle - you have done so well, not a fail at all. I have had runs like that by w5, you've done fantastic getting to w9.

Well I completed w7r1 last night. Sore again today but not as sore as day after w6r3. So all progress. I will have to do the stretches.

Thanks to everyone who have kindly told me what apps I can download to give me my distance etc.

Well done to all those who are at graduation or nearing it. What a feeling.

DigWeedSow · 02/08/2013 10:10

Congratulations watching Grin at you running up and down in front of your house, enjoy your Brew
Welcome Lizzie I'd also recommend slowing your pace down to help complete your runs if you can.

After Wednesdays run just falling short of the magic number I was determined that today I would hit the 5k mark......only I forgot to log it as I was running. Anyway I have just logged the route into Map My Run and I ran 5.4k! Not sure on the exact time but it was between 30 -35 mins so very happy this morning.

For those of you that have got to the 5k/30 mins mark what are your plans? I think I'm going to concentrate on improving my 5k time and may attempt a Park Run or two. Eventually I'm hoping to move onto the 10k plan.

elliemummaroos · 02/08/2013 10:17

I have a question about trainers... I've read about getting the gait analysis and proper trainers to match your style etc. is that something to do later or would I be better getting it done now? My trainers are running ones (no idea which ones though) but I don't think they are the right ones for my style. I've only just finished week 1 so don't want to look like I'm trying to be something I'm not but I have a history of hip and back problems and am concerned that the wrong trainers may cause problems I wouldn't experience with the right ones?! Also how long do you have to run for when they do the gait analysis?! Thanks, Ellie xXx
