Anybody have any experience of this? Calf Pain. Long and Boring.

Not sure if this is the right place for this but here goes. I have been given conflicting advice by so many people I finally decided to ask the wise sporty mn'ers. Smile

For a long time I have experienced calf pain when walking, this is mainly when I am wearing flats but is also pretty bad when I wear Fit Flops, so not just confined to completely flat shoes. It's difficult to describe the pain; sort of like a severe cramp in calf muscles which builds and burns and generally feels like my calf muscles are going to ping apart, getting worse until I have to stop walking and lift each leg until the pain stops. It's terribly painful and I generally have a high pain threshold.

People have told me it is because I have flat feet. I've looked at my feet in a mirror and I don't. I have a visible arch.

So, what is causing this pain? What can I do to prevent it? Help! I can't keep catching the bus!

TIA Thanks

Time to speak to your GP if you haven't. Sometimes stress fractures cause a pain very similar to what you describe but as you are certain it is located in your calf....It may be stress fracture and the tendons and ligaments are placing more stress upon it when you walk.

You do need to get it checked though. MN can only assist to a small degree here.

I agree that you need to seek medical assistance here!

I get aching calf mucles from running, but am not in pain to that extent and it is very definitely a muscular ache. I am doing Pilates to strengthen and lengthen supporting muscles. Also have insoles for my running shoes.

That sounds like you need a GP/X Ray

Agree you need to see your GP.
Achilles tendonitis may be a possibilty ,the pain is just the location you describe, but I think you need a professional to check it out for you.

grumble grumble don't like my GP grumble grumble

Thanks for advice all. I was thinking I probably should get along to docs and get an official opinion. Smile
