Cold when taking kids swimming.

I get really cold when taking my kids swimming at the local leisure centre. Tried a nice surf rash vest which just got totally bleached / ruined by the chlorine. It's making me not want to take them. (I'm fine otherwise when swimming lengths on my own ... .) Anyone find the same? Got any suggestions for keeping warm? I'd use a cheap supermarket wetsuit if I didn't think I'd stick out like a sore thumb/look a prat! Thanks all.

Have you tried a thermal rashvest or have a look at chillcheater.com I think normal rash vests are just thin Lycra so not that robust (or warm!)

I don't have any advice I am afraid but dislike swimming with my kids too for this reason. I get utterly freezing quite quickly unlike when swimming normally when you are keeping warm through the exercise - it makes me want to just get out! It really spoils it for me. So I am going to watch this thread!

Thanks ItsAllGoingToBeFine. Will check it out. Chlorine is so horribly corrosive on non-specialist stuff though. No wonder it turns hair green!

You need to keep moving. The children are ok as they move.

I tend to swim around after them or after them with just my arm or legs. It means i move slowly but uses energy and keep warm.

I would also recommend woggles /floats and encouraging them to race so that you can swim alongside them.
