Have you seen a GP to find out what might be causing the pain? if it is general muscle weakness and a result of being overweight (as opposed to anything like arthritis or similar), could you see a physio for recommendations on the types of exercise you should be doing to strengthen the necessary muscles (the approach at the moment seems slightly random)? Or at least a good personal trainer who can do a properly tailored programme for you and who will make sure your form is perfect to avoid further aggravating your joints?

As a starting point I would stick to the stationary bike, rowing machine and cross trainer and avoid running as this puts more impact on joints.

Do you take any supplements? I am very fit but still suffer from some joint pain in my knees. I take fish oils and MSN/chondoitrin/collagen every day and find this helps (seem to get more pain when I stop taking them for a bit, such as a week or two holiday where I forget).

So what do they recommend exercise wise? I know someone at the gym who has fibromyalgia and severe arthritis, uses a wheelchair but works out really hard - her body looks incredible. She has been training every day for years though - if she doesn't all her joints would seize up completely.

Its great that you are exercising but I think you need some professional guidance as to a programme to build up gradually, rather than just throwing yourself into it Smile. Don't give up!

I would also suggest you seek out some aqua aerobics sessions. These are done in chest deep water so the load on your joints is lessened.

Hi Groovey, I was thinking about you this morning, I think you could probably get a GP referral to a specialist personal trainer, I assume this would be covered by NHS, has to be worth asking?
