Running Shoes/Trainers

I have just started jogging and my trainers are killing my toe nails so I need to get some new ones.

How much bigger than my usual size should I go? My current trainers are a 6 but a small 6.

I'd go to a specialist running place that can have a look at your feet and help you to choose some shoes. Are you wearing running socks?

I wear a 41 trainer but am more like a 39.5 to 40 normal shoe size? It's usually about a size up as your feet spread when exercising.

A size bigger.

Am I meant to be wearing running socks? I'm clueless!

I don't want to spend loads of £ because I have only just started but I am surprisingly enjoying it and don't want painful feet!

To begin with any socks will be ok....
You can always buy some running socks later on when you're doing longer runs - ideally sockd that will wick sweat from your feet, dry rapidly and less likely yo cause blisters

It is worth getting the right shoes - a running shop should give you advice and let you try shoes before you buy - unless you have a problem such as severe over pronation (often due to low arch or foot "collapses" in when you run) then a good neutral shoe is an option to start with

If you already have any issues and use insoles/ orthotics then you should use the same in a neutral shoe

A general rule is at least half a size up from what you usually wear.

And shoes should fit and be comfortable straightaway... Any discomfort is bad - don't assume they'll bed in and feel better once worn a bit .....

So I ended up in JD Sports which I know isn't a specialist shop but they were very helpful.

I tried on a few pairs and ended up with some that are half a size bigger then my actual shoe size but are massive compared to my old trainers!

Thanks for all your help Smile
