arse and fanny padding for cycling

started cycling in the past few weeks on a borrowed bike so I can't change the saddle.

But after nearly an hour of it today (3rd day in a row) I am on fire. I've heard of padded cycling shorts I could wear under my clothes are these what I'm looking for and where would I get them. I also can't afford to spend a lot but I definitely need something if I'm going to keep this up.

Even if the bike is borrowed could you not take off the owner's seat and put one of you own on. A gel filled saddle will make a huge difference, and even more so if you get one with holes in the saddle for your delicate bits.

You can get gel shorts for cycling, or just padded ones. They do make a difference. Go Outdoors do a range, or any good sports shop.

Definitely get yourself some cycling shorts, The padding makes all the difference. Try evans cycle shop online and perhaps halfords would do them, but any cycle shop local to you would stock them.

I've just ordered a pair of spin leggings from H&M that are specially padded to help with this.
I haven't got them yet so don't know how good they will be but hopefully they will help.

thanks for this. I will have a look online

It will get better but meanwhile either (or all):

padded gel filled saddle cover

padded cycle shorts

or new saddle - they're very quick and easy to fit

and make sure the angle of the existing or new saddle is set up correctly for you

Meanwhile...a REALLY thick sanitary towel Smile. Used to work for me Blush

Sports direct are selling cheap women's cycle shorts both via their website and via amazon. I got some muddy fox Capri trousers from them yesterday which are well padded. £9.

sorry to have to ask this - but what part of you actually hurts?

If it's your butt and a sort of bruised feeling in your bum bones then yes, you need padded shorts and/or a gel saddle.

If your lady parts are hurting though you need a ladies saddle, ideally with bits cut out of it, like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=ladies+saddle+cut+out&hl=en&sa=X&biw=1280&bih=643&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=iT-f7LasIuSDmM:&imgrefurl=www.chickencycles.co.uk/index.php%3Fcat%3D28%26sub%3D150%26ord%3D2&docid=3fz-5HX683ikmM&imgurl=www.chickencycles.co.uk/productimages/SD801.jpg&w=300&h=286&ei=sVI1UOpGpbHRBbq5gPAF&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=496&vpy=140&dur=1716&hovh=219&hovw=230&tx=127&ty=96&sig=110566535647388949008&page=1&tbnh=145&tbnw=158&start=0&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0,i:77" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this
that'll keep your weight on your bum and off your more delicate bits. your bum WILL hurt a bit with lots of cycling, your fanjo should NEVER hurt cycling.

TheArmadillo · 24/08/2012 19:50

Thanks for all these - my shorts arrived today so I did about 45mins cycling tonight and it was sooo much better. The padding is arsewards but because I am not hurting that is what I am sitting on/where the pressure is rather than getting in weird positions to avoid the sore bits IYSWIM.

Maybenow that is very useful - I know what I should what I should be feeling now. I will see what happens over the next couple of weeks with these shorts.
