My mountain bike is a custom made, one off bike. I got it third hand and the bloke I got it off reckoned it was a prototype mountain bike for Claud Butler back in the days when they used to be decent bikes.

I've had it for nearly 20 years and love it to bits, its aluminium and really light. No suspension, but I don't think I'd like suspension. Surely shock absorbtion slows you down!

Suspension can slow you down if you are pedalling (though decent stuff doesn't) and it means you can go much faster down rough stuff.

now my dad has a claude butler - but back from the 50's just the frame now is original the rest is replaced etc

VivaLeBeaver · 03/08/2012 17:12

Mine still has the same tyres - never even had a puncture.

gosh - have the tyres not perished? My tyres on one bike did after about 5 years

VivaLeBeaver · 03/08/2012 17:26

Tyres seem fine. I'm going to get it serviced next month as the only thing I do to it is occassionally pump the tyres up a bit. Seems to go ok, though I'm sure it I used to be faster!

FrillyMilly have you looked at Dylan for 46 cm bike porn? I'd be really surprised if they didn't have anything . Also, a girl I was at uni with was 4'11" and had a tiny tri bike from Rubble. Not sure what size frame, but must was tiny, and has race-legal wheel size. Or what about the bigger Islabikes? Their cross bikes are lovely.

BikeRaceRunningRaceNoSkiing · 03/08/2012 18:42

Arrrgghhh Dolan not Dylan.
Ribble not Rubble!

Hiding this thread. DD spent all of last Sunday swooning over bikes at her first Triathlon in five years, we cannot afford an upgrade yet.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 03/08/2012 19:08

FrillyMilly-DD is a teeny dot and she had her tri bike built for her, we actually got the frame cheaper because it was so small. It was in the workshop of the guy who supplied all our tri kit and he couldn't find a buyer for it.

FrillyMilly · 03/08/2012 20:37

I live near Ribble cycles. I think I need to go in to look at small frames and some live action bike porn.
