Shredding/exercising/rehab broken ankle

Any advice out there. I broke my ankle 5 weeks ago and before that was shredding 4-5 times a week and loving it. It was a clean break, no op, pins etc needed and was told would take 30 days to heal and after that my return to exercising would be down to me after that and how my ankle felt. I am hobbling around, definitely on the mend, no cast and just a brace for protection when i go out. Any ideas when i should be looking at being able to exercise as really missing it (after 40 years of being a couch potato) and weight is going back on. Am going to the beach for a few weeks in a weeks time so am thinking walking in the sea should help strengthen it and improve flexibility? Any voices of experience out there?

I think you really need to speak to a pyshio who has seen your x-rays. I would definitely say no impact. I broke my wrist a year ago and it took ages to feel strong again and that is not a weight bearing part of me. If you're talking about the Shred you could stick to the ab and strength exercises and just walk out the cardio, definitely no impact.

I have no medical training whatsoever but completely understand your frustration. Patience is the key or you could end up having to wait longer to recover. When I broke my wrist I was just up to running 5k after having baby no 3 and I was so frustrated at having to stop. I kept ticking over on an exercise bike though.

Please be patient and take it slow, and speak to a physio. Remember your injury is still quite recent. You'll be strong again in no time. Best of luck Banana Smile

Ps I've just remembered a member of my running club broke his ankle in a race and kept running on it to the end Shock. He had to have 3 months of no running but is back competing 8 months later.

Oh and what about swimming, that should be fine if your physio agrees. The more I think about it the more I think shredding might not be a good idea, you might be tempted to do a jumping jack or something and that would really be a bad idea.

In fact ignore me, I always run when injured knowing full well I shouldn't. We need more sensible advice here Wink.

Thanks for the advice Lemon. I think you are right and I need to take it slow. Think will give myself until after my holiday and then maybe just start shredding without the high impact cardio. Will have to start eating less again as well Angry
