Can anyone recommend a good pair of running shoes for a large lass new to the treadmill?

I've got some fitness advice but want to find a suitable pair of shoes to support my ankles and knees.

Also a good bra to stop my boobs from relocating to my waist. I might need two!

If anyone can help I'd be grateful. Ta muchly.

shoes - personally i find asics best but it depends on your gait. Get yourself to a running shop to have yours analysed (free)and get shoe recommendations based on that...if what they sell in that range seems too ££ go home and order last season's model online (eg at sportshoesdirect.com) cheaper.

bra-IMO the shock absorber "run" bra cannot be beaten...unless you are so well endowed you are out of their size range which goes to 38F. If that is the case I am sure there are more knowledgeable posters who will be along soon! Sure there have been other sports bra threads on here before too, try a search.

Enjoy Smile

I second Sleep. Shock Absorber Run bra is brilliant.

Thank you! Will do.

I like vibrams 5 fingers for running, although they're not to everyones taste!

Poledra · 30/04/2012 16:19

Not a runner, but am a horse-rider, and cannot fault the Shock Absorber bra (number 4, I think - the one for the highest impact sports?). Actually, that's not quite true - it's quite high at the front, so some t-shirts are cut too low but that's a small preice to pay for keeping my norks still Grin

MaisieM · 30/04/2012 16:20

Freya do a very supportive underwired sports bra in bigger sizes

supernannyisace · 30/04/2012 19:20

I also have the Shock Absorber Run bra. I don't have giant norks, but they are old... Grin Anyway - it is very supportive. It's so tight in fact that it feels like I am wearing a back brace - excellent for the posture!

re shoes. If you plan to do a lot of running I would recommend getting yourself to a proper running shop. As sleep says. I replaced my running shoes and went to a different running shop this time. Iwent to sweatshop. The guy spent over half an hour with me - made me runon the treadmill - and it is videoed so you can see if you under/over pronate. It turns out that I over pronate quite a lot - which can cause all kinds of issues. I eventually ended p with lovely new New Balance trainers - which were £85 -to be fair, they were almost the cheapest in the shop - but I wasn't shopping by price . I do a fair bit of running so it is important to have the right fit to avoid injury.

supernannyisace · 30/04/2012 19:20

Oh, and at sweatshop - if you donate your old trainers - they send them to a charity (forget which )and you get £5 off your new purchase.

I think they did somethign similar with sports bras too.

If you're on the big side, then cushioning is very important. I'd get either the Nike Vomero or Asics Nimbus. Can't help with anything else, I'm male lol

Ooh well you can hold 'em up for me! Wink

What, while you run?! ;)

MarkStretch · 30/04/2012 23:26

Another vote here for Asics trainers and the shock absorber run bra. Both brilliant.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 01/05/2012 16:24

Yep, I'm at home on the treadmill.
