Over 16stone & had success with COUCH to 5k running?

Hi I'm currently about 16.5 stone (5'8")

Need regular exercise in my life. I've got the healthy eating under control. Due to work/kids etc the only thing I can really see working is running, but I'm terrified to start.

Obviously I would go really slowly and think C5K will work. I have knee injury but if I go very carefully it will be OK. I think the knee will benefit greatly from losing weight.

Anyone started out quite big and managed to become a runner?

Inspiration needed - I'd love to hear your story.

Absolutely, there's a lady at my running club, who at 5'3'' was 17 stone 3 years ago. She's now within healthy guidelines for her age and yesterday she did the London Marathon in 5:07! She started with a run/walk programme, alongside Rosemary Connolley's (sp?) diet

Take it easy to begin with, but GO FOR IT! I should warn you though that this running lark is addictive Grin

If you can find a local running club that has a run walk group, that will help enormously. Once you've built up to running a mile without stopping (which will be hard and take a while) you'll never stop.

Defo doable.

I started running a couple of months ago and I am really enjoying it. I am very overweight and I was unfit. I am slowly losing weight, my fitness and stamina have come on leaps and bounds and my muscle tone has significantly improved.

If I can do, anyone can do it. I really do believe that as well.

Warm up and down properly and get a good pair of running shoes.

Good luck, there are threads on here for support Smile

oooh I'm smiling reading this.

I have excellent running shoes born after DD1 was born - never worn Sad
Thanks for sharing - I need to stop thinking and start running.

I lurk on the running threads here.

Hi. Started c25k last feb at about your weight. I've lost about 5.5 stone and hoping to shift the last one over next 2/3 months. I'm now addicted to running, go to a club and have done a few 10k races with a half marathon on the horizon. I now run about 5 times a week and love it. I can't believe it's me sometimes. Go for it

HipHopOpotomus · 03/05/2012 15:35

that's really inspiring molly!

I still haven't ventured out yet. I've got shoes, bra, MP3's etc - just need to put them on & get out the door .......

HipHop have you gone yet?! Wink If you want more motivation, finding people to run with is great - check out the local groups to you on the RunEngland website. There are loads for beginners.

I'm ready to go out the door too.... Just moved house and a bit unsure about which route to take

I have done c25k before and loved it
