Where to get a swimming wetsuit fitted...

by someone (preferably a woman) who will boost my friend's confidence. She has never had one before, is overweight and very self conscious. I love her dearly and want it to be a good experience. We're in the North of England. I bought my Orca suit online which was fine, but their sizes are relatively small. Any other tips for helping her would be much appreciated too Grin

I am watching with interest as I need one too, have misguidedly entered a triathlon and the XL tri suit size won't fit me...

Hi Celtic, sorry to hear about your trisuit. That's annoying. I'm bumping this to see if we get responses. I rang Triangle in Leeds which is a specialist triathlon shop who do swimming wetsuits too. The guy who owns it was very helpful, unphased by weight concerns and confident that they would have big enough suits in stock. I may take my friend there to be fitted. He may be worth ringing if you want advice on different brands of trisuit. Mine is Orca, but looking at their sizings they barely go past a UK 12 which seems ridiculous!

I was wondering whether that was normal prices or sweaty Betty stupid prices (the latter I guess Grin ). That's more than I paid for my winter surfing wetsuit although I suppose it will be super stretchy.

I bought my Orca swimming wetsuit for about £130 (one step above entry level) but the prices vary. I think the sweaty betty is made to measure. Worth the investment if you're serious about swimming but I think my friend would throw in the towel :). The difference between swimming and surfing wetsuits is that swimming ones have Lycra in the shoulders to allow for freer movement.

Thank you WWW for bumping and for useful info.

Try here - TriUk they do wetsuit hire, you have the option to buy after hiring. I hired a pre-owned one then bought it for £50. It is a Foor, very basic but does the job.

CelticPromise · 23/04/2012 14:01

Thanks Clure looks like I can get one to suit my weight by going only three inches taller than I am Wink. Can I ask, does yours have a lot of give in it? I am a little concerned about unisex suits because I have 34G boobs.

Clure · 23/04/2012 20:23

they are quite tight fitting, and generally squash your boobs! I think different makes have different thickness of neoprene and so this "gives" in different ways.
