I'm overweight but I'm working at it. I have lost 1 stone so far, 2 more to go. I'm training for race for life with the app get running. When I'm not running, I'm doing some cross training and at least 2-3 times a week 30 days shred.

Anything else you could advise me to do ???

I have a full blown, long standing exercise addiction but even so have only just got into running, it's a particularly good 'hit' I have to say..different from but almost as good as a swimming high Grin

Yes yes Korma, you can.

Take it really slow. When I started I was doing things like 15 seconds plank and running for 30 seconds, walking for I minute, running for 30 seconds.

And try and find something you like. I am astonished that I enjoy weights and interval stuff. Never in a squillion years would I have believed that if you had told me 6 months ago.

Go Korma.

Pag - I am very impressed! I'm 10lbs down now, but weight is stuck at the moment. I'd like to think it's because of all the muscle I'm laying down Hmm

My motivation is kept high by seeing my Young Man personal trainer twice a week!

BIWI · 27/03/2012 17:57

And Korma, yes absolutely you can. Make sure you get someone to advise you carefully/properly as to what you can - and more importantly what you can't do. And get them to help you work out a programme of exercise.

lovesineffable · 27/03/2012 18:04

BIWI iirc muscle is almost twice as dense as fat so it's possible to loose some fat, gain a bit of muscle and be the same weight...you can be leaner but the same weight

I'm definitely leaner. Wore a dress today that looked much more 'streamlined' and lumps and bumps were much less visible than when I wore it a week or so ago, so it's definitely working!

Nothing like getting hot and sweaty in the company of a 23 year old boy man twice a week .... Grin

lovesineffable · 27/03/2012 18:55

Korma, I second what others have said about taking it slow, but also presume that your doc has given you the OK?

Well I'm nearly 48 and until I had dd at the age of 41 had always been super toned and slim. It kind of went downhill a bit then and I have been struggling for a while - being menopausal doesn't help! So, have cut out alcohol and biscuits (sob) and started properly 'doing' the gym - 40 minutes workoiut every other day and swimming on the days I don;t work out. Already feel a lot better and hoping to tone it up in time..

sherocks · 28/03/2012 08:04

Sairy, korma you go girls !!! I went running yesterday and it was a bit hard as I had to run 3 minutes 2 times but I did it ! I was suppose to do 30 days shred but I was to shattered !

I'm going to do 30 minutes cross trainer tonight.

Good for you Sherocks! I try and up the running by 15 seconds each time. Just slow little increases work for me.

Aw Korma, illness etc is a hit. I started this because my vavk was so bad and because I realised that need to stay alive gor ever such a long time if I am going to look after ds2. I am aiming for immortality. Grin

Maybe BIWI lending me a 23 year old bloke would help ?

Sairygamp - no alcohol and exercise stalled most of my menopausal symptoms so it should help

Yay us!

< runs around a bit>

sairygamp · 28/03/2012 10:18

Well I already feel much better! I am also aiming to stay alive until I am 116 - apparantley 2 out of a billion people on earth achieve this. I am quite looking forward to it Grin

Weight training - very difficult to change your muscles any other way.

Also, put a bit of focus on being healthy and treating your body well, not just on weight and looking good. It will give you a stronger foundation in the long run.

BIWI · 28/03/2012 10:27

Oh no, Pag. He's mine, all mine [scary obsessive emoticon]

sairygamp · 28/03/2012 10:40

I wouold agree with the focussing on keeping body and mind well. I am very much someone who will go 'sod it' and drink, smoke and overeat when I'm miserable, not giving a monkeys about the consequences. Just to do a week or two of not doing the above makes me remember how good it actually is to feel 'well', and need to continue.

sherocks · 31/03/2012 17:06

I'm quite happy with myself today, I have managed to run 30 minutes plus 30 minutes of cross-training then 3 hours of walk !! Since I have exercised regularly I feel more energetic !!!
