How do I keep losing weight?

After having dd I put on 4 stone. I lost this just in time to get pregnant with ds. ds is now 11 months and since having him I have lost 39 pounds. Really want to lose at least another stone (preferably 2 stone but heyho!). However in the last fortnight I seem to have started to flatline. I feel I should be back to my prebaby weight in time for summer but need to get going again?

Does anyone have any tips for restarting weightloss that has been going well? Feel I need a new focus. I having been going to the gym but have to cancel the subscription for financial reasons, also running but due to the time dh gets home from work can only really do this at the weekend as I live in the middle of the country and would have to run in the dark along roads (am also shattered by then. Any ideas for things I could try at home/good followable diets I could combine and not feel starving? Thanks

What was your diet like while you were losing weight? Also what exercise were you doing and what running now (eg how fast/far/often/what intensity )?

Trying to eat healthily with less carbs than normal. Over the last month though it's the sweet things and a more constant grazing that have crept back in...
Running four miles once a week (~50 mins) and then trying to do another shorter run once a week but normally only about 20 minutes. The gym I went to was Curves (30 minute circuit of resistance machines and resting). Also am trying to introduce an hour bike ride once a week which so far have managed for the last month but not this week. I love the feeling of being fit but just feeling so exhausted at the moment that I have somewhat lost the plot...
I have a triathlon (short! - slight spur of the moment thing I signed up to) to do in May so I need to continue with all the training.
Thanks for your reply.

Where's the triathlon? I'm doing one in may- mine is in Lancashire

Also in May - Cheshire. What are your distances?

Ok, well it sounds like you know where you are going wrong diet wise...can you swap the sweet snacks for protein based ones? Just allow yourself one sweet treat a day and try and make it around 100 cals, should be enough to stop you feeling too hard done by but still satisfy the cravings?

Re exercise, more needed Grin. I would start by making your 20 minute run an interval training session, so lots of 30-60 second sprints, each followed by walking or very gentle jogging for a minute to recover. It will feel tough but its short and very effective training! It will burn fat much more efficiently (and continue to do so after your run) also improve your fitness much more than a 20 min steady run. Keep your four mile run a steady one so you stay used to it for your triathlon. Try and keep the bike ride too.

Then you need to look at what you can do at home, particularly resistance training and hopefully a bit more cardio. 30 day shred comes very highly recommended on here if you think you would do a DVD workout. Otherwise could you afford to invest in some weights or even a TRX trainer? Lots of vids on YouTube to show you technique. Best if you can alternate weights/trx sets with some high intensity cardio such as skipping, burpees, star jumps touching the floor, jumping on/off a step or squat thrusts. The idea being to keep your heart rate up during the session and maximise your calorie burn whilst strengthening and building lean muscle?

Will you be able to build some swimming in later? And some practice at doing at least two of your tri activities back to back? Could be a struggle on the day if you don't Confused?

Does any of that sound feasible?

thedevilisinthedetail · 19/03/2012 20:32

Thank you Sleep! That is fantastic advice and sounds feasible. Interval training sounds good, I think with the light evenings I should be able to get 20 minutes in every evening when dh comes home form work and then do the 4 miles at the weekend. I'll aim for that in the evenings and then 30 Day Shred or a bike ride in the morning. Swimming I can work in later but that should be ok! I'll see how the next two weeks go and then see if I can up the times.

You're welcome. Good luck with it, I'd love to hear how you get on with the training and the triathlon so keep us posted Smile. By the way don't forget to spend 5 mins warming up before your intervals.

To keep weight at low level you need to eat healthy foods but less fat and low cards. Doing work outs are little tough for you so you do cardio like walk, swimming, bicycling. These work out protect calories to strong in body tissues and convert into body muscles. Drink water mostly about 8 to 10 glasses per day. Water is a better and natural source to fight against fat.
