Does anyone use thier Wii as their main form of exercise? (or as any part of your exercise routine?)

I've turned into a lazy tubby disgrace and need to do something about it! but, I had DS2 12 weeks ago so going out in the evenings / day to go to gym / classes is not possible as he still feeds loads.

I got a Wii (with a balance board etc) after DS1 was born and am ashamed to say I've never used it. I got a dance dame for xmas as an incentive to start, it's still in the box!

So, if you do use your Wii as a fitness tool how do you do it? What sort of programme can / should I have? I'd also like to start jogging but it's too dark right now once DH gets home but starting on the Wii may get me the stamina I need for when it starts to get light again.

Thankyou!

I started off using the EA Sports Active game - takes you through varied exercises for a 30-day programme. Stuff like tennis, boxing, basketball, as well as squats, lunges etc.

It was great as a starter (and I was 2.5 stone overweight at the time...) I now tend to go to the gym for longer and more intensive workouts. But the benefit of the wii is that it takes you through all-round body exercises, rather than just pounding the treadmill for half an hour at a time.

That sounds good. How often did you you use it / for how long at a time? I'm thinking gym / classes as a longer term goal when I'm able to leave the house for long enough!

I never did the 30-day programme for more than a week at a time - life got in the way! But I found you can just pick up where you left off. If you do manage to stick to it, it provides rest days every 3 days or so. Timings - about 20-30 minutes (but add on the how-to videos in between). It does vary though - you can pick and choose programmes up to 50 minutes (never quite got that far), or focus on different areas of the body.

But yes, think of it as a stop-gap for longer term gym stuff or equivalent. I think it's good for toning. I did one again recently after a long break - was fine with the cardio (jogging in the spot), but my arms killed afterwards from the resistance band! A lot of the programmes seem to include "inline skating", which are basically a series of jump squats. Man, my legs were painful afterwards!

I am back on my wii fit doing 6 just dance routines a night as well as the biggest loser every other day. In a week I've already noticed my fitness improve. I'm 3st overweight so any exercise is beneficial. I'll soon need to get back to the gym or sone resistance exercises to tone up x

Good luck and happy dancing!

When I wanted to get fit and lose a few pounds I started a routine of doing 20 minutes of exercise four or five times a week. This included using the Wii fit and doing Just Dance on the Wii, and also using a stepper and doing aerobics. I found doing short bursts and with more choice of activities meant I didn't get bored, and could fit it into my schedule more easily. It definitely worked for me.

Good luck!

I've got the Zumba game, sounds like that'll be a good start, unless it kills me Grin
