When do you run?

I got really into running when on ML with DS (now 2) and was going out 3/4 times per week. It dropped off a bit when I went back to work and my DD (4) started school which I have to do the drop-off for. I spent quite a bit of time this summer getting fit again and was really enjoying running and improving times etc but I'm now struggling to find the time again.

I get up at 6.45 after generally being up a couple of times in the night. I leave for work at 7.45 and drop DD at school by 8.30 and then go into work for 8.45. I get home at 1.30, look after DS and fetch DD from school. Both children go to bed at 8. DH gets in between 7.30 and 8.30. I'm a bit scared of going out early in the morning or after the children are in bed as the roads are quite dark and quite fast.

Any ideas?

Do you have space for a treadmill at home? You can normally pick one up for next to nothing on ebay/in the back of the local paper.

Otherwise you'll have to see about cramming it into your day. Can you run before picking up your DD from school - either leaving your DS with his childminder/nursery for the extra half hour or so, or running with him in a baby jogger. DH has taken to getting up early to run before work. Whilst it's dark, it is getting lighter which makes it preferable to the evenings, and he covers himself with reflective strips - the snap on things that go round his upper arm and ankle. You could also use a headtorch and attach a bike lamp to your back (on a bumbag or something) to make yourself really visible.

Will any of that work for you?

Thank you. I'd thought treadmills were way too expensive but I have had a look on ebay and think that might be the answer!

I really like running on roads but don't think I'm organised enough to get up early to run. I might be able to go out with DS before we pick DD up from school.

Thanks for the suggestions though - really helpful!

what about weekends?

i have to change when i run every week due to my shifts - but my children are older now so i dont have to worry too much about sneaking out for an hour.

could you do a couple of good out door runs at weekends?
or find a friend to run together in the evening? or join a club?

i tend to run during the day except when i go to running club - its always night time but i know im safe as im with someone.

i tried running on a treadmill but i just find it too boring.
