Which yoga DVDs are good?

Dh and I are are both feeling like old crocks at the moment, despite being only in our 30s and 40s Grin! Dh is very tall (and often stoops as a result) and has developed lower back pain. I've got mild joint pain (especially in my knees and hands) and it looks like I may have inherited the family arthritis, so we're looking for a yoga DVD to help improve flexibility and muscle strength. We're both of normal weight/BMI and otherwise in good health and fairly fit (dh in particular walks eveywhere).

I'm hoping for advice on...

  1. What type of yoga is best for our needs.
  2. Recommendations for good DVDs that we can follow together. Our dc are only 4 and 1, so classes would be problematic.
  3. Any other tips to help with flexibility.

What a bugger WhatsWrong. I'm avoiding going to the doctor about it, although dh has finally agreed to see someone about his back.

What will we be like when we're elderly Shock?!

I know, I actually feel like an old woman now. Tbh, I've always struggled to find the 'right' exercise, not helped by various physios and osteo types telling me not to do anything strenuous. Now I wish I'd just done aerobics classes while I still had relative flexibility, instead of fighting to get it back when it's gone.
Sorry I've hijacked your thread. Hope a useful person turns up!

Grin Absolutely fine to hijack. I'm getting old woman gnarly hands which looked quite authentic for halloween Confused.

Why do yoga when you can shred with the kindly jillian?

Funtimewincies · 06/11/2011 16:36

Because you were all on your knees by day 4 Chooky darling Grin. The aim is to make it better, not worse!

I'll take a look at the ballet one. I was thinking more of traditional yoga but if there's something else that might work I'm very open minded Smile.

I came across this on another thread today. Don't know how effective it is, but it's free and might be worth a try.
In fact, you can spend hours googling different ways of treating back pain and general creakiness.
It's a matter of finding something your particular problems respond to, so try as much as possible and don't be scared to push yourself a bit - the main thing is to be as mobile as poss!
