Km on the one I use at the gym?

Sleepwhenidie · 01/11/2011 15:44

Km in my gym which led to a slightly panicked, embarrassing moment on a treadmill that did miles in a gym I went to while visiting family. I can't run at 12mph on a treadmill....cue me frantically pushing buttons to reduce speed while running too fast for comfort GrinBlush. So glad I didn't actually come off the back Grin

Thanks both.

When I've run 5k road races my time usually comes in at around 28 mins or so, just under half an hour I guess.

It takes me around 26/27 mins to run what I thought was 3.4 miles on a treadmill (only 1%) incline. But now I'm thinking it may be 3.4 km, as the weight thing is in kg which I've normally heard means the distance in is in miles.

Sleepwhenidie - what sort of speed would 7km an hour be for you? Would that be a slow jog, or running? As I'm definitely not walking or slow jogging when I run at that.

Hmm.

Sorry, as the weight thing is in kg which I've normally heard means the distance in is in km.

Just to say, I def don't think I run significantly faster outside than inside.

Gym one is km. Most people i know think 9-10km per hour is a 'comfortable' pace. Hence your 28 mins for a race supports that - 10.7km/h. I can just about speed walk at 6.5km/h, then turns to a slow jog by 7km/hr

Sleepwhenidie · 01/11/2011 22:27

7km ph would be a gentle jog I would say.

5km is about 3.2miles so it sounds like you probably are running 3.4m in 26/27mins on treadmill, given that a treadmill is supposed to be easier than outdoor running. If you were only running 3.4km that would be considerably slower.

Having said that GrinConfused I am sure that I run faster outside, I feel uncomfortable running much above 10km ph on the treadmill, slightly out of control IYSWIM? Outside I would aim to do 10km in 50-55 mins though.

Sorry if not much help....ask the gym staff?!
