Runners - How do you work your upper body?

I know I'm full of the threads today...

Anyway my question is, how as a runner do you work your upper body?
Since running my legs are super tonned and I'm fitting into pre-dc jeans, great!

However, my upper body is not doing so good, especially the tummy.
It's horrid :(
I've lost weight which I'm proud of and I know you cant spot reduce, so just wondering if runners do anything to work their upper bodies?
Arms and tums.

Thanks

Not enough in my case, I have the legs of a Premiership footballer and the upper body strength of Frank Spencer.

I do use the cross trainer at the gym sometimes and find yoga good for general fitness.

arms are quite easy, wrist weights. tesco do an adjustable set that are quite comfy to wear. I've just been given a rowing machine in order to try and achieve the six pack!!! some hope!

ciruits, martial arts, pilates are all good

Wiifitmama · 16/10/2011 20:47

Body Pump class at gym. Unbelievable workout for arms and core.

RuthChan · 16/10/2011 20:54

I do push ups, pull ups and exercises with free weights at home.

Circuits & Pilates at the gym. Shred & Pilates DVD's at home

I must be one of the only people who running tones the arms for? Mine pretty toned from running alone.

However push ups, pull ups, tricep dips when I can be arsed!

I've started kettlebelling and it is brilliant, I can feel the difference already. If there's a Sports Direct near you they have a 6kg for £15 then search on You Tube for some exercises. Also I have just bought the Shred, but haven't tried it yet. I am determined to get an upper body to match my legs!!!

SazZaVoom · 16/10/2011 21:13

With the shred, i use light weights when doing the cardio exercises, so you can double up on the arm work

squix · 16/10/2011 22:12

Pumping arms more when running, tricep dips, push ups and sit ups when get home after a run.

Wow you lot work hard!

I'm impressed :)

Ok so I'm going to invest in wrist weights & the shred too, heard lots about it on mn.

Like the sound of body pump not sure how to fit it into the day though...

I do press ups and free weights at home. I have tried various things for tummy but my tum seems beyond help so sort of given up on that for the time being.

benandhollyandgaston · 02/11/2011 19:05

Fannybanjo my arms are toned from running too.

You and I must have some kind of vigorous arm technique

I carry around my 2 1/2 yr old who is a little gibbon!

Also do a lot of core/tummy work, as I had major probs with tummy muscles not closing post babies. - mainly static holds (planks etc) so I don't get another hernia. Also do upper body work - push-ups, tricep dips and free weights - benefit of all of these that they can be done in living room after kids bed time
