Hi, i do off road stuff, mostly. it is about 1 mile to off road trail (on road) and then I run a few miles in mud (not planned but the weather determines this part) then a mile home on road. I have just had a baby and the trail shoes I used when pregant are now hurting on one foot so it looks as if I need a new pair. Can you give me some recommendations and handy if you tell me where you got yours - online best for me
thanks
ps have road shoes too but use them a lot less
pps am neutral runner not over or under pronator

Salamon xa pro are good for neural runners, gore tex cover so great for muddy trails and they have a rigged chassy down the middle so protect the foot from uneven ground
They are pricey but worth it and they do last really well.
Innov8 are another brand to consider.
All available on line, you can sometimes be lucky and find them discounted in 'go camping' stores and sometimes even TK max, but it really is a find.
Some of the salmon range without gore tex coverings are cheaper but it will depend on what you want
Good luck x

I have some Addidas Kanadia - they were about £45 online - I love them. They're not completely waterproof, but fine for mud and v grippy.

My route is very similar to yours. I spent a long time in a specialist trail running shop (Accelerate in Sheffileld) and ended up with a pair of Saucony Xodus shoes. They are fab. Not Goretex, but I don't mind. I have men's ones because I have very big feet, but I am sure they do a women's version.

Innov8 are good shoes, but only fit a very specific foot shape - narrow and straight, most feet are naturally quite curved.

thanks Bikerunski and mrs cog. i have pondered going to a local run shop specialist, am just too lazy to waste the hour plus drive in the car (is lake district somewhere) when I could spend the time doing more fun things. My feet not straight and narrow! and am 6 and a half but bigger size in some ranges. might just buy one of the recommendations you have all shared and try to get to local run shop. Just not a big runnner ~it is more for my mental space and am slow but so much fun to be out.
out of interest, what socks do you use?

I run for mental space too. Not a natural runner at all!

Socks- I have some specialist "Hilly" running socks, but generally wear anything. I do like my merino wool Woolie Boolies in winter though.

If you are in the Lakes, just go to the shop that used to be Rock'n'Run in Ambleside (The Lakeland Runner?) and get on with it!!!! Feet and knees are too precious to leave to chance. Mail order running shoes may have been hanging around for ages. The rubber in the soles has a shelf life, whether they are used or not. Couple of years.

I'm on my third pair of Innov8s in 2.5 years and am in need of a new pair. I like them for the running but do feel they could do with lasting a bit longer. (I also had to take a pair back after about two weeks when the heel completely collapsed into a horrible solid lump) However I can get them from the shop in the next village, whereas the decent specialist shop (accelerate as for bikerunski) is nearly an hour away and I've just never carved out the time to make it there.

BikeRunSki · 29/08/2011 19:14

Accelerate is about 40 mins away from me, and you have to park by a brothel, but their advice and choice is well worth while. Can't wait to start running again!

thehiddenpaw · 29/08/2011 19:41

bikerunski-are you pregnant? seem to remember posts somewhere but myb brain is all fuzzy. Apologies if this totally wrong and jumping to wrong conclusions. ordered some innov8 last night and am also going to try going to the specialist run shop think one in Keswick, sent runner friend a message last night to check where she had gone. thanks everyone for sharing. Was out this morning and foot not as sore but so glad had made decision to get some new, as bikerunski says, feet and knees too important! now off to post about milk for long haul flights

Yes, Hiddenpaw,32 weeks. Both times I have found out I was pg have been doing a lot of running, rapidly ended by hyperemisis!

What do you need to know about milk on long haul flights?

thehiddenpaw · 30/08/2011 18:59

congats bikerunski. my little one now 8 weeks. is cosy on my lap.milk query over whether you can take cartons of ready made through security.websites say 50% tested and that would be waste. am also not clear if can order airsde at boots

I bought some Mizuno's today. They are really comfy & I found they 'gripped' my feet more than the Asics (which I always wear for normal running).

tulip27 · 31/08/2011 21:20

InThe Sunshine - I got some Mizuno's on sat and have done about 15 miles in them so far and love them, I got the wave 6 but I hear the wave 7's are to be avoided at all costs, funny ankle apparently.

thehiddenpaw · 31/08/2011 21:26

never tried Mizunos, another to contemplate. been for a run today in my road shoes and foot still hurt so think it is maybe I am just to heavy post baby! Still getting new shoes though
