You don't need expensive ones - just good ones. This isn't always the same thing! I have very buggered ankles and need to wear decent ones!

Don't need to be mega expensive but they must be fit for the task. Try to go to an independent sports shop that specialises in running.

Thanks. Are the acica ones around 70 okay?

You will need to try them out. Find a good runners shop that will analyse your running style and advise.

orienteerer · 09/07/2011 20:46

What area of the country are you in (might be able to recommend shop)?

wahwahwah · 09/07/2011 20:48

Theres a very good one in Victoria - Run and Become.

I wear asics, the same version (though updated) that I was fitted with several years ago in a shop. When I've needed to change my shoes I've just found the discontinued last version online and bought that at vastly reduced price - about £35 down from about £80.

decent ones a must. when i started out running a few years ago i just got some asics from sports direct, about £40 as wasn't sure i would keep it up. This time went to a specialist shop and went on a treadmill and they film your feet as you run. I told them didn't want to spend more than £80 so they gave me a pair of asics that where £100 for £85, so they will negotiate. Trainers are so ugly but so worth it as not had an injury since wearing them

It's not price but the suitability for your gait which can only be determined by going to a decent running shop as others have mentioned. You could always look online for a cheaper version (eg last season's version) of the pair you are recommended. I always buy mine in bulk online which helps keep costs down (a bit).

Places like Sweatshop do the treadmill analysis for free - well worth it. It may show a cheaper pair will suit your gait? The more you pay, the more padding and support you tend to get but some people won't need this.

As others have said, you should have shoes that suit your running gait. It you don't then you could get injured and spend far more than the cost of the shoes on going to a physio. I've stuck to the same shoes for several years and now buy them on-line from the US as they're cheaper.

A must, my husband hurt his foot for around 3 weeks and had to go to the doctor because he was wearing the wrong shoes. He spent £55 on a pair of running shoes that were £85 originally and is now injury free
