How to work out how far you have run

I run for about 25mins 3-4 times a week. Well jog really. U usually round my local park and streets. Is there an easy way of working out how far you have run?
Also do you think this is an OK ammount of time or should I look to be increasing? I am trying to loose a bit of weight but it doesn't seem to be happening. The first few weeks i felt that I was toning up but now I feel my body has ground to a halt. I think the run is feeling easier but not sure that mentally I could go for any longer.
Any advice would be very welcome

Google maps pedometer on line is what I've been using for a couple of years.

I have just downloaded a free app for my phone this week called Buddy Runner, which seems to work well... it gives distance, pace and time.

I think you can go on google maps and plot where you've run and it will calculate the distance.

I jog/run, and do a 5k circuit in 35 mins... if you run at my pace you will be doing around 4k ish.

I was the same as you, and uncertain if I could run any further. I entered myself for a 10K race, and knew I needed to be able to run that distance before race day - so it gave me a real incentive. You could do the same, or start with a 5k race - it definitely helped me to have a goal to aim for.

www.gmap-pedometer.com/

See above link.... put in your postcode to get your local area up. Set it for runners. You can set it to show approx calories burnt too.

I know Marlin, people at work are talking bout doing a 5K but not sure about it. Will try and work out how far my usual run is first

This site is good, once you get the hang of using the map. You can opt to follow roads, or not - the latter is useful if you run across a field, or take a non-road shortcut, something that bog-standard googlemaps is no use for.

thanks - I do 3.64km, further than I thought. Maybe need to aim for 5K now!
Will give me something to work towards, am quite chuffed with myself

Well done Topsi! It's a great feeling knowing how far you've run! when I did my first 10k I was absolutely paranoid that I would be one of the last to finish - needless to say i wasn't as there were plenty of people walking, and i actually managed to overtake a few which was a novelty for me!

DontCallMeBaby · 24/04/2011 20:21

Ah, I'm liking my own recommendation - only used it for bike rides before, just used it to map out the C25K route I just did, and it reckons 4.2km vs 3.5km according to the C25K route. Nearly there then ... we will say nothing about the fact I feel like I'm about to die.

If you have an itouch or iPhone there is an app of the mapmyrun site (imapmyrun), if you download it it uses gps to track you as you run, buzzes each km completed.
