This is a continuation of the thread "Happy When We Are Running" for those of us who are committed to running in order to preserve a sense of ourselves and maintain a degree of sanity in our lives which are otherwise taken over by family and work-related matters.

All runners are welcome, experienced and newbies, if you are a keen runner. We promise to support you in your efforts and have a running (excuse the pun!) list of races (see below) which various of us have entered in order to provide advice and support along the way.

So what are you waiting for? Spring is here and there is no better time to enter those races you have been wondering about entering and lose those winter pounds, and all for free (well, as long as you have a decent pair of trainers suitable for your running gait Grin). Alternatively, if you don't want to race you can just join us to enjoy the racing vicariously and learn about training and what (not) to do along the way.

Right, that will be my mantra for tomorrow.....'I have trained for this'Grin I keep having to remind myself of this, I feel like a fraudConfused

We have made it to the hotel. Ds's are completely hyper, room is usual cheap hotel standard.

Thanks for the calm vibes DrNo, I really need them.
Well done on your longest run, it's a great confidence boost for you.

drivingmisscrazy · 16/04/2011 20:45

good luck everyone! these might make you laugh and dispel pre-race nerves...

I'm running 11 miles tomorrow - my longest run for about 2 years!! I will keep myself going by thinking of you all :)

backwardpossom · 16/04/2011 20:52

Wow, driving some of those costumes are impressive!!!

futurity · 16/04/2011 20:57

Love those costumes!

drivingmisscrazy · 16/04/2011 21:03

I loved the look on the face of the little kid looking at puff the asthma dragon: heroic, the lot of them

futurity · 17/04/2011 10:06

Am watching tv in envy! Looks like a lovely day for it ..hope it doesn't warm up too much .

Themasterandmargaritas · 17/04/2011 10:07

I watched the elite women start off - first mile was a 5min mile. Go Kenya!

I feel quite Envy of those participating.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 17/04/2011 10:16

Hope everyone running today has a good one!

backwardpossom · 17/04/2011 10:29

I'm watching it in awe, these guys running it with 5 min miles - it's insane! I can't do one mile at that speed!!! Wink Hope our runners are going well :)

DrNortherner · 17/04/2011 10:58

I know 5 min miles for the leading woman. O M G as my 9 year old ds would say!

peachsmuggler · 17/04/2011 11:00

Just thinking the same thing possum. Awesome stuff.

Making me a bit tearful thinking of all our girls out there!

backwardpossom · 17/04/2011 11:09

Me too, peach, pass the tissues!

Louise Damen has the most awkward running style I've ever seen, she looks so uncomfortable!

sfxmum · 17/04/2011 11:22

right there with you with amazement, my word they flyGrin that was pretty amazing

DrNortherner · 17/04/2011 11:27

And to think Paula holds the woman's record and she stopped for a pee Grin

futurity · 17/04/2011 11:27

Agree about Louise Damen...hard to watch ..looks painful! Here comes Jo Pavey:-)

sfxmum · 17/04/2011 11:32

Damen looked like she was going to fold I could barely look but she made it so well done

peachsmuggler · 17/04/2011 11:51

Damen had a great time but agree on the weird running style. How??

Themasterandmargaritas · 17/04/2011 12:23

I've just watched the men come in, it's a good day for Kenya Grin. They are all so awesome.

Nearly as awesome as our MN'ers. Wink

My sports channel only does the elite runners so I can't see anyone else Sad.

backwardpossom · 17/04/2011 12:51

Richard Whitehead - what an inspiration! Did you see his sprint finish. Brought tears to my eyes!

MrsWednesday · 17/04/2011 12:59

I've been weeping non-stop since I put the telly on!

Really need to get on with my domestic duties but can't drag myself away.

Managed 18 miles today but have got a v sore knee now and even sitting in a cold bath hasn't helped. Fingers crossed it is nothing serious.

Just watched Nell McAndrew finish in 3.09, hopefully Moshi will be crossing the line soon.

sfxmum · 17/04/2011 13:04

glad it is not just me getting all emotional Blush

celebrity gossip Nell lives hear here and she is mates with a friend of mine, they run together a lot, speedy folk, by all accounts she is quite lovely so makes me pleased for her really

not running today I don't think went yesterday but have to rest that knee will pop out tomorrow if I can hold it until then

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 17/04/2011 13:11

Nell is fab isn't she? Good to see James Cracknell too.

sfxmum · 17/04/2011 15:28

so inconsiderate of our marathon runners not to rush to a wi-fi upon completion and inform us at once Grin

will run a little bit now I think, indoors doing accounts is far too boring

drivingmisscrazy · 17/04/2011 15:55

I'm on tenterhooks now - living vicariously as best laid plans for today's run totally banjaxed. DD woke at 6, DP didn't wake up until nearly 9, my long run window was 7.30-9.30...will have to do my best to make up mileage next week (I hate chasing lost miles like this). At least I had already done a 10 miler this week, so it's a good way of ensuring I don't increase mileage too fast. But I need some serious long runs before May 21st. I think I am going to have to move them from Sundays - all too often family stuff just prevents me from going. How do other people handle this?

thecoo · 17/04/2011 16:01

Is there anywhere to carry on watching the marathon now? We were out most of the day, so I just saw the start, listened on radio and have now caught up on headlines - I just want to watch some of the slower peeps coming in live now though!

drivingmiss it's a problem when family is involved isn't it? Wasn't sure how I could fit mine in either today so got up at 6.45 and was out by 7am, but even that wouldn't have worked for you. I'm lucky my boys are older so they amused themselves while DH had a lie in. Is there another day when you'd be able to get up early to fit your long run in?

Can't wait until we get some feedback from the runners today! Agree sfx that updating us should be their first priority Wink
