has anyone used a good running route mapping programme?

A school mum recommended MapMyRun.com but i've looked at it tonight and can't fathom it out at all. Also, I do most of my running off road so i need a programme that can cope with footpaths etc.

anyone?

TIA

try realbuzz, not sure if it does footpaths though.

my husband uses bing maps - used to be live map. it's abit complicated app. but it measures anywhere not just roads

I use www.gmap-pedometer.com/. I don't save the routes though, just use it to plan them out or to check how far I went afterwards.

thanks everyone - off to try them out.

try running ahead here - you can map your routes (set up an account, log in, go to my running log, and click on new course) - if you put it in hybrid (top right) view you can map footpaths and off-road (uncheck box 'follow roads'). I'm making it sound unduly complex - it isn't. The log is good, too.

map my run, is simple, easy, free use it all the time. it's great to use if you want to run on holiday or somewhere you aren't familar with too.

Sorry just read your op properly, didn't realised you had tried map my run. I think most of em are pretty similar, what is it you can't work out?

Walkjogrun dot net is pretty simple and free. Just draw your run onto aerial maps and it calculates distance etc. I also use footpaths and it works well for me.

Good run guide is also handy i run off road through trails, parks etc and it is good for that

Would second www.walkjogrun.com - very simple to use, good overlap and also (and very helpfully) has a hill mapping function so you know what the gradients are across the route.

I use Good run guide - works well for me.

Mapometer.com is like mapmyrun but I find it easier to use. Not sure about footpaths though.

If you put mapmyrun onto the hybrid view under settings you will be able to work out the off-road stuff.
You can also get it tell you the elevation and if you put in a few basic details (age, height, weight, time) it will tell you your speed and how many calories you have burned- an excellent excuse to justify that extra glass of wine! Grin
