Brexit

Have you ever boycotted a brand due to being pro-brexit

Hello!
I am working as a research intern with the University of Glasgow and looking for participants to assist in a project led by researchers Dr Parichehr Riahi Pour and Dr Toma Pustelnikovaite. The project is exploring consumer boycotting behaviour towards pro-Brexit brands.
I am seeking any British or EU citizens, 18 years or older, residing in the UK, who have had the intentions to/or have boycotted a brand due to its pro-Brexit stance to take part in this study by undergoing a short interview via Zoom. This project has been ethically approved and is GDPR-compliant.
If this applies to you or anyone you know, please feel free to leave a comment below, message me directly or email me at [email protected]

No.. I am not a low IQ pleb

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 05/09/2022 18:24

No because that would be petty and childish.

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 05/09/2022 18:24

Ditto @DavidWirral. Although I don't agree with how we were mis sold Brexit, I believe in democracy. To boycot for differing political beliefs gets uncomfortably closer to dictatorship.

BurscoughBooths · 05/09/2022 18:27

I have a long list of companies I avoid for supporting brexit but I am not willing to do a zoom interview.

I may well be petty & childish but I am not a low IQ pleb. I am just exercising my right to choose where to shop or where to eat & drink

caringcarer · 05/09/2022 18:32

I was happy we exited EU so would be more likely to support a business supportive of Brexit. So would DH, and 2 X ds's. We are not badly educated with DH and I having 4 degrees between us.

Mardyface · 06/09/2022 16:23

@caringcarer are you still happy we exited? I'm interested in why.

caringcarer · 06/09/2022 21:46

I'm glad we exited but I would far rather we left with no deal and traded on world trade organisation terms. We are still sending EU about 10 billion every year. We can't send certain foods to NI which is dreadful.

oxydant · 06/09/2022 21:47

No, get a life

OnlyEverAutumn · 06/09/2022 21:47

Weatherspoons - will never darken their doors again. And no I’m not a low IQ pleb 🙄.

Imissmoominmama · 06/09/2022 21:48

Wetherspoons here too. I wouldn’t buy a Dyson again either.

caringcarer · 06/09/2022 21:53

Pressed too soon. During pandemic we could act on our own to secure the vaccines which saved lives. In the EU they had to get agreement of all countries before they could act. That slowed the EU down. In the latest war on Ukraine we UK could act immediately whereas the EU were all disagreeing on what should be done and could not reach consensus. This delayed their action and limited what they could commit too. It is very hard to get 27 people to agree on things. It is too big.

ThisIsNotAFlyingToy · 06/09/2022 21:54

Yeah, I do. Next, Wetherspoons and Dyson that I can think of straightaway. Tbf, it's no hardship to boycott any of those.

Octomore · 06/09/2022 21:56

Wetherspoons and Dyson. I refuse to put a penny in the pockets of their owners.

Octomore · 06/09/2022 21:59

DavidWirral · 05/09/2022 18:20

This comment shows considerable ignorance. You know that consumer boycotts were one of the tools (one of many) which helped to bring about change in aparteid South Africa?

If company owners can use their influence to promote political ideas, then consumers equally have the right vote with their feet and spend their money elsewhere. It does not indicate someone is a low IQ pleb.

I don't think 'dictatorship' means what you think it means.

Elsanore · 06/09/2022 22:02

Wetherspoons. Also now because of how they treated their staff during the pandemic.

This

OnlyEverAutumn · 06/09/2022 22:22

@PutinIsAWarCriminal agree with PP, you don’t understand the meaning of the word boycott. Boycotts have been used for many years as people power to effect change.

I’m with those saying Dyson too - he has shown himself to be a deeply unpleasant man.

IScreamAtMichaelangelos · 06/09/2022 22:24

I try to avoid Wetherspoons as a direct result of the pro-Brexit rhetoric produced by its owner, yes.

VivX · 06/09/2022 22:27

Imissmoominmama · 06/09/2022 21:48

Yes, this.

And Boycotts are nothing to do with IQ, being a pleb or dictatorships.

bellinisurge · 06/09/2022 22:27

Dyson can get to fuck.

Cleopatra67 · 06/09/2022 22:29

Wetherspoons.

Ahf22 · 06/09/2022 22:32

No but I do boycott companies who support the SNP. I also boycott companies who don’t provide safety and privacy for women and girls and those who cannot accurately say what a women is.

The government fucked up brexit; had it been done correctly and we weren’t still ploughing money to the EU then no, I wouldn’t boycott an individual business for being pro-Brexit.

Mardyface · 06/09/2022 22:32

@caringcarer you are right that the EU was slow on vaccines. However the UK could have acted as they did even in the EU - and in fact were still operating under EU law when they did. fullfact.org/health/coronavirus-vaccine-brexit/

I don't agree that 'we' acted quicker or more effectively on Ukraine other than in PR terms. Our refugee decisions were unforgivable. We're bound by the NATO agreement as is the EU.

Do you think moving things to NI would be easier under WTO terms? That just means no agreements whatsoever. Which we kind of have. One of the many reasons to argue against Brexit was the complicated NI situation.

You're entitled to your opinion obviously, and you won. I just think it's sad that my kids and yours will likely be much less economically secure than we have been up to now as a result of misinformation basically. I choose not to give my money to companies that had a hand in that, as is my right and really the only power I have currently.

VivX · 06/09/2022 22:34

It would surely be more "pleb-like" to obliviously support businesses without questioning their business practices and so forth.
