Hello!
I am working as a research intern with the University of Glasgow and looking for participants to assist in a project led by researchers Dr Parichehr Riahi Pour and Dr Toma Pustelnikovaite. The project is exploring consumer boycotting behaviour towards pro-Brexit brands.
I am seeking any British or EU citizens, 18 years or older, residing in the UK, who have had the intentions to/or have boycotted a brand due to its pro-Brexit stance to take part in this study by undergoing a short interview via Zoom. This project has been ethically approved and is GDPR-compliant.
If this applies to you or anyone you know, please feel free to leave a comment below, message me directly or email me at [email protected]

Pressed too soon. During pandemic we could act on our own to secure the vaccines which saved lives. In the EU they had to get agreement of all countries before they could act. That slowed the EU down. In the latest war on Ukraine we UK could act immediately whereas the EU were all disagreeing on what should be done and could not reach consensus. This delayed their action and limited what they could commit too. It is very hard to get 27 people to agree on things. It is too big.

Nonsense. Any country within the EU can authorise its own medicines.

God there's loads of businesses I try to avoid because of various practices, Brexit included. Admittedly avoiding Wetherspoons is no great hardship though.

SkiingIsHeaven · 06/09/2022 22:47

No but I have stopped buying Haribo's because I can't stand the advert.

RainingYetAgain · 06/09/2022 22:48

Wetherspoons, Dyson and Hargreavess Lansdown.
And stop the rubbish about vaccines we could have licenced them while members of EU. That's the way it worked, national agencies did the assessments.

Actively avoid Wetherspoons, Next, Dyson and Timpsons (amongst others) because of their owners' stance on Brexit.

Am old enough to have boycotted South African products (and supported the sports boycott): was born in South Africa and my parents had left when I was very young because of apartheid so I had a personal conviction to do so. And in the end, it did have an effect.

Just as now I can see the damage that Brexit has done - and continues to do - to the economy and our young people's futures, so I have a personal conviction to do what little I, as a consumer, can do.

I have a long list of companies I avoid for supporting brexit but I am not willing to do a zoom interview.

I may well be petty & childish but I am not a low IQ pleb. I am just exercising my right to choose where to shop or where to eat & drink

Exactly this

Endlesssummer2022 · 13/09/2022 02:12

Yes. My parents boycotted brands which supported South Africa during apartheid. I also avoid wearing New Balance and Estée Lauder products due to their leaders support for Trump who put in place judges to reduce women rights.

In regards to Brexit which reduced mine and my children rights and will wreck our economy, I avoid the usual suspects such as Next, Wetherspoon’s, Dyson, Phones4U and Butlins.

I don’t think making an active choice about where I spend my money makes me dumb or whatever the defensive PP said earlier in the the thread. Actually I think it means quite the opposite.

I'm glad we exited but I would far rather we left with no deal and traded on world trade organisation terms. We are still sending EU about 10 billion every year. We can't send certain foods to NI which is dreadful.

I think your schools need to revoke those degrees.

The UK cannot "trade on WHO terms" without permission.

Thats one the problems with Brexit-voting folks like you.

You literally had no idea what you were voting for.

Same here.

I actively avoid brands who supported Brexit.

There is simply no excuse for their support because the economic damage it would cause was obvious.

September, thought I'd seen this before.

Pipsquiggle · 11/11/2022 18:12

I decided to buy a Shark Vacuum cleaner rather than Dyson because of the shitty way they moved their HQ to Singapore to still have access to the EU.

I would never go to a wetherspoons - mainly because they're shit - their Brexit stance just confirmed my stance

TofuBurgerAnyone · 14/11/2022 09:04

I boycott Weatherspoons, Next, Dyson and a couple of farm shops near me who supported Brexit.

Yes me too. I had a Dyson and would have bought another one if it wasn’t for Brexit - went for Shark instead.

Daylesford Organic - used to buy from them but stopped after the owners declared their support for Brexit (and their recent support of Boris Johnson means I won’t ever go back).

I have no interest in giving these people any of my money.

Peregrina · 14/11/2022 09:27

Avoided buying another Dyson and bought a Miele. I don't drink much so it's no hardship to avoid Wetherspoons - not only for Brexit but for the shitty way he treated his staff under Covid closures. I used to avoid Next but occasionally buy their jeans, but I wasn't too sorry to see their Lord Wolfson whining about it not being the Brexit he wanted. Yes it was, chum - Brexit was undefined, you voted for whatever you would be given like signing a blank cheque.

twilightcafe · 14/11/2022 09:36

When my Dyson dies, I won't get another one because they're rubbish and overdesigned. James Dyson's support of Brexit was the last straw.

Never knowingly been to a Wetherspoons, so not going isn't really a boycott.

Exasperatednow · 15/11/2022 07:18

@caringcarer I have masters if we're doing that now...its a shit show. Was always going to be.

I don't buy Dyson now. Replaced Dyson with a sharks. And weatherspoons.
