Have you all started depleting your Brexit stockpile yet or are you holding on to it still?

I've started using a few bits but I don't think we're out of the woods yet. I also want to keep a stash to keep us going if we should have to isolate.

MiddlesexGirl · 12/01/2021 08:25

Probably been quietly moved across to the covid stockpile Smile

blueangel19 · 12/01/2021 08:45

Never had one.

MyNameIsArthur · 12/01/2021 09:11

Putting covid aside, are we still waiting for the moment that it all goes tits up with shelves emptying because of Brexit? Am aware this is happening in NI

Using all of ours, pointless keeping it now clearly no real issues with transportation. Most of it all will be wasted and go out of date otherwise.
I have kept back a few bags of pasta and frozen bread just in case of snow next week and the week after. We live rurally, so we always have some essentials stored every winter.

Certainly not worried about brexit anymore.

Peregrina · 12/01/2021 09:31

We were a bit half hearted but no, we are still going to keep it up. We have noticed that gaps are appearing on the supermarket shelves. Covid will be used as the excuse, but it will also be due to Brexit.

Until of course Liz Truss does these magnificent trade deals with countries literally half way across the globe which will then flood the supermarkets with food.

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/01/2021 09:37

I think there is still time for there to be problems with transport and import duty on some items. There is no danger of my stash passing dates because I have always kept an eye on it, use items and replenish. It's just like having a well-ordered pantry but in a couple of boxes under the bed.

megletthesecond · 12/01/2021 09:40

Keeping it until after Easter and covid cases start to settle. I'll need it if I get ill.
I'll always keep a decent stash in future though. It's been really handy.

Mamamia456 · 12/01/2021 12:18

Heard on BBC radio news that Ocado have said they are having problems with certain foods in their supply chain because of people being ill with covid and also isolating.

Icanseegreenshoots · 12/01/2021 12:30

Any issues will mainly be with fresh food, so how is a stockpile going to help with that? We have ample quantities of everything else.

pointythings · 12/01/2021 12:40

I'm maintaining it. I expect supply chain issues to get worse.

ListeningQuietly · 12/01/2021 12:40

I will keep a bollocks I have to self isolate in a hurry stockpile
and a the supermarkets have run down their stocks and customs is still a shambles stockpile
and a the weather is crap and I feel tired stockpile

as in I'll never let my larder empty
but will not keep it stuffed to the gills

PicsInRed · 12/01/2021 12:43

Maintaining.

It's just a general "British fuckage" stockpile now.

Standrewsschool · 12/01/2021 12:44

I intend to use the Brexit stash, and replace with new stuff, to ensure continuity of dates.

MyNameIsArthur · 12/01/2021 12:44

Not here to debate stockpiling

zzizzer · 12/01/2021 12:45

We're in the middle of a pandemic and potentially seismic shift of delivery patterns. Anyone who can keep a stocked food pantry should!

ForeverBubblegum · 12/01/2021 12:49

I'm mostly keeping it for now, but I've broken into it a few times where I've ran out of something but don't want to take the kids to the shop might start, and swap out when stuffs getting close to sell by. Im not sure that we are out the woods just yet, I'll probably keep it until around Easter, then start running it down.

MyNameIsArthur · 12/01/2021 12:52

I wonder how many weeks/months of stock supermarkets have at the moment

OP posts:
ChristmasinJune · 12/01/2021 12:55

I'm using mine mainly because I don't want to go to the shop at the moment.... On days when I don't need to work I'm pretty much barricading myself in my house, so it's coming in handy!

ListeningQuietly · 12/01/2021 12:57

Five to six days of most things maybe three weeks of others NO supermarket will hold months of stock of anything

Yes, that’s what I’m doing. During lockdown, I’m using up my extra reserves and going back to my default of one open, one in store. Shopping as little as possible. Jan and Feb have always been store cupboard months here, to help offset the expense of Christmas.
MarshmallowManiac · 12/01/2021 15:24

Definitely agree with you Listening , we are not out of the woods yet. In our area there has been quite a lot of shortages. I am trying to rotate stock and keep everything I have in date.

MyNameIsArthur · 12/01/2021 16:48

We rotate our stock too. Understand that alot of the problems might be with fresh fruit and vegetables so we have stockpiled tinned fruit and frozen vegetables and other alternatives.

You are strange but endearing people

MyNameIsArthur · 12/01/2021 17:20

May be so but I wasn't worrying about loo roll back in March last year 🤣
