Have you all started depleting your Brexit stockpile yet or are you holding on to it still?

@Haggertyjane 😂😂

MrsFezziwig · 12/01/2021 17:39

@Haggertyjane

You are strange but endearing people
Look how polite we are to each other though, unlike the anti-preppers!
teenagetantrums · 12/01/2021 18:04

I am running ours down a bit. But making sure we have enough for self isolating if we have to. I have got used to having a stock of food now so will keep it up.

Orlania · 12/01/2021 18:08

I've done most of mine on covid. I'll keep some in the cupboard but don't think I'll bother to stockpile again. I've got plenty of rice, lentils, toilet roll, dried milk and teabags. It may get boring. But we won't starve.

PMcGintysGoat · 12/01/2021 18:11

I'm using mine as a float, so trying to maintain better levels of stock in my pantry than pre-brexit/covid. This week my supermarket food delivery is sans a number of products (e.g. fresh poultry, celery, firefighters, DS' favourite breakfast cereal). I'm not sure or ultimately bothered by the cause, but I'm glad to still have chicken in the freezer and a spare box of cereal, etc.

I don't think we're out of the woods anyway, suspect some supply chain issues may still be working through the system - even if only lorries in the wrong places etc.

wonkylegs · 12/01/2021 18:17

Mines not a stockpile more a very well stocked larder
I rotate so nothing goes out of date but I think it's still going to be useful re:brexit as we are only 12 days in and there are some issues showing but it's mainly been useful pandemic wise for self isolating (had a few periods now) and reducing inconvenient shopping

Eng123 · 12/01/2021 18:18

No I'm hoping that we wont see disruption but not out of the woods yet.

Wellthisismorethanabitgrim · 12/01/2021 18:29

Trying to keep mine at the same level for a while, mainly because I think it could all still poss get a bit trick re Brexit and also in case we need to self isolate or covid gets so bad locally we don't want to go out (it's pretty dire where we are already). I've had some weird out of stock items in my delivery the last few weeks so I find I'm adding the same items weekly in the vain hope one week they will actually have them! (Tuna, baked beans, ibuprofen and sour cream if anyone is interested!).

I used to just buy stuff when we had run out / about to run out but now I have a spare of most things we use regularly and it's been invaluable in not being having to go shopping unnecessarily just because we've run out of a 'critical' item. I also have things on subscription now (toilet roll, washing tabs, dishwasher tabs, dog food) which I will continue even when we are out of disaster mode!

ProfYaffle · 12/01/2021 18:35

@PicsInRed

Maintaining.

It's just a general "British fuckage" stockpile now.

This! Grin so much potential for fuckage everywhere, including the weather forecast.
tinkywinkyshandbag · 12/01/2021 19:30

I think
I'm always going keep mine now, will just use and replace

MarshmallowManiac · 12/01/2021 21:02

Haggertyjane of course we are endearing, but strange I don't think so, maybe strangely wonderful. Smile

Ellie56 · 12/01/2021 22:04

I don't think we're out of the woods yet either. The fruit and vegetables are not as well stocked as usual and there have been random things like red currant jelly and tomato ketchup out of stock for several weeks running.

Every time I go to the supermarket I notice prices seem to have increased as well. The price of Morrisons fruit juice that I have been buying regularly for months has shot up by 25%.

ListeningQuietly · 12/01/2021 22:10

Supply lines for things like Ketchup face extra pressures in the coming months ....

grenadines · 12/01/2021 22:17

Keeping it for the beast from the East Smile

We will hold onto most of it for now in case we need to self isolate. Also waiting till a bit longer after Brexit. However we have started using a few things and need to check sell by dates.

Standrewsschool · 13/01/2021 13:34

This thread has prompted me to have a sort out of my freezer, post Christmas, to see what food I actually have in there. I know I still have a Christmas log.

Mistigri · 13/01/2021 18:57

I wouldn't start winding up the Brexit stockpiles yet. One large German haulage company has just pulled all of its haulage services to the U.K. It won't be the last company to do this.

changingnamesandkeepingsane · 13/01/2021 19:05

I'm in NI and have a Sainsbury's order tonight of which there was a couple of minor substitutions. The biggest issue I've encountered so far is orders of plants and seeds.

ListeningQuietly · 13/01/2021 20:21

Family in rural Montana would think it weird to not have a month of food in stock.
Family in suburban PA would think it dumb not to have a week of food in stock.
Friends in Manhattan think it crazy to not have three days in stock (after Sandy)

After the beast from the east and Brexit and COVID it really is about time that EVERY family in settled housing
has £20 worth of tins and long life set aside
(that is a LOT of calories BTW)

Those who cannot store are then able to shop every day without facing empty shelves

wherearemychickens · 13/01/2021 21:55

I'm keeping ours up until at least April - that's when supposedly we're introducing full customs checks, etc. on food imports. I want to see how that goes before I'm relaxing on it.

Reading logistics Twitter, it also feels to me like it's still a storm building. The DB Schenker news seems to be concerning people.

Icanseegreenshoots · 14/01/2021 06:38

So I have reorganised the small amount I have left into the cupboards, and my children are doing a great job of demolishing what is left of it Grin like a cloud of locusts.

We have supermarkets full of food, everywhere I look there is food. I am tired to cooking it, storing it, thinking about it.

Now it is nearly gone, a good spring clean and we are ready for the spring here. I see the stockpile psychologically now it is time to go. Brexit is over, covid will soon be over the worst, the winter will soon be over. I need some clean bare cupboards and some bleach spray, and for this winter to be gone.

SnuggyBuggy · 14/01/2021 06:43

Still keeping it. Check through it regularly and take ones with only few months left to the food bank and buy more. I think I'll always have a stash now.

wherearemychickens · 14/01/2021 08:39

Yes I think it has changed the way we shop too. I like not running out of things because there's always a spare.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 14/01/2021 08:52

I've been meaning to reorganised the pantry fir a few weeks now but haven't had the energy. It started off as a brexit box and then I converted the under stairs cupboard with a shelving unit and I love it as I only have a tiny kitchen with little storage space. It's been a godsend whenever we have had to isolate, couldn't get a delivery, during shielding etc. I am going to keep my pantry well stocked because it's such a good idea in general. I haven't "popped to the shops" in almost a year now. Mainly because of shielding but generally because I haven't needed to and I use what we have.

ZazieSheHer · 14/01/2021 08:54

I kept building stocks til 31 Dec, I’ll maintain them til end March, then will run down to a lower level and just keep rotating that.

DenisetheMenace · 14/01/2021 08:55

Hanging on to it, we haven’t felt the effects yet.
