Good King BBBBaBoris looked out,
on the Port of Dover,
There the shit lay round about,
Deep around the stopover;
Brightly shone the moon that night,
Tho’ the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight,
Delivering stuff for Yule.

“Bugger SAGE and stand by me,
We've all stuff that needs selling,
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?”
“Sire, he lives a good league hence,
The other side the EU;
Though relations maybe tense,
He's trying to get goods through.”

“Oh god I need another wine,
I have many crisis to consider:
We must tell them its all fine,
I must not be seen to dither.”
SAGE and monarch, forth they went,
forth they went together;
Through the nation's sad lament
and really crappy weather.

“Sire, our plight is darker now,
And the covid transmission stronger;
Fails my heart, I know not how;
To keep Tier 2 much longer.”
“Soon we can drop their wage.
And treat them all more coldly
In Britain's new chrony age
A time to rob more boldly.”

In their master’s steps they trod,
On the quest to get minted;
Each and every last sod
Needs to be fingerprinted.
Therefore, Christian men, be sure,
DWP claimants are processing,
Ye who now will bless the poor,
God its all so depressing.

Unless Labour can pull their heads out of their arses, and stop being Red Tories, it's not a great future ahead.

Another centrist masterstroke. Endorsing a leader seemingly intent on out-Torying the Tories. There is a massive void were Labour should be i.e challenging injustice and not being afraid to do so. Attempting to be all things to all people is doomed to fail. Conditions now perfect for right wing populism to flourish.

Peregrina · 28/12/2020 09:40

Endorsing a leader seemingly intent on out-Torying the Tories.

Utterly stupid of Starmer. He only needs to look at what happened when the LibDems went into coalition with the Tories. He needs to allow either a free vote or instruct them to abstain.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/12/2020 09:44

@Sostenueto

Gove now on radio 4. First thing out of his mouth was we can now have free ports. Lolol! He's been pulled up on deregulation.
I see the extra red tape is now a brexit bonus too because it’ll make us ‘match fit’ for trading with the rest of the world.
prettybird · 28/12/2020 09:53

Saw Tentacles Slapping on Sky this morning while he was doing the rounds: swerving the question about how many additional border agents had been recruited to cope with the increased border checking requirements (and admitting that the checks into the UK would be waived) but simultaneously lauding the number of new jobs that had been created by the whole new industry of customs agents now required by businesses wanting to export Hmm

This is not a value add - it's a straight additional (and valueless) cost Angry

I heard that Gove interview too. It totally ruined my relaxing morning bath. I ended up yelling at the radio.

Peregrina · 28/12/2020 09:57

You can just imagine what would be said if any Labour/LibDem/SNP MP came out with this claptrap.

bornatXmastobequiet · 28/12/2020 10:37

Hearing Gove and his effortless glib lying can ruin anything at any time under any circumstances IMO.

Blacktothepink · 28/12/2020 10:46

Just seeing Gove’s face ruins my day, even before he opens his gob...

KonTikki · 28/12/2020 11:27

God, I just hope Gove doesn't replace Bojo.
In fact, I would rather keep the bumbling bafoon for now, owning Brexit and all that comes with it, than have him replaced by Gove.
I really can't stand listening or seeing that man.

ListeningQuietly · 28/12/2020 11:28

I have stopped watching any video of any UK politician.
Its not good for my mental health

lonelyplanetmum · 28/12/2020 12:29

I just thought I'd share my thought when I woke up this morning. I wondered if those people who " wanted their country back" feel it is now back?

HannibalHayes · 28/12/2020 12:42

OK, this is a bit worrying.

Show's the government's true colours though...

OK, this is a bit worrying.

Are there no international conventions on this?

We as a country really are sinking as low as we can get.

Chersfrozenface · 28/12/2020 12:57

Well, there's the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, signed by 173 parties.

I'm not sure who you can complain to if it's breached, and I'm not sure how you can force even your own government to provide consular assistance.

I'm not a lawyer, though.

FatCatThinCat · 28/12/2020 13:00

What is this governments obsession with freeports about? And why are they making out that they can now have them as a result of brexit?

There are freeports all over the EU. In fact the UK had freeports itself until 2012.

CaptainSandy · 28/12/2020 13:02

HannibalHayes what's bleakly amusing is that plenty of being were insisting that the UK government was under no obligation to assist the recently stranded truck drivers, and that their own governments should be doing so (or Macron, people seemed to be quite confused about likely nationality) because we'd surely be doing the same if the situatino were reversed.
Apparently not.

HannibalHayes · 28/12/2020 13:02

An interesting take from Der Spiegel here.

HannibalHayes · 28/12/2020 13:02

@CaptainSandy - that's a very good point!

HappyWinter · 28/12/2020 13:04

That isn't good. No wonder they haven't been helping Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.

I ask if we could sink any lower but I don't think I'll like the answer we will get. We had a great country, why are they destroying it? They are definitely not traditional Conservatives, not that I vote for them, prefer more centre left.

HannibalHayes · 28/12/2020 13:13

So the government says it's not responsible for our food security, and isn't responsible for looking after it's citizens abroad.

What the fuck use is it?

mrslaughan · 28/12/2020 13:26

@FatCatThinCat
Well it's one of the main(?) ways Sunaks FIL made his billions......

mrslaughan · 28/12/2020 13:27

Also see great for money laundering .... we can continue to be some one of the foremost places for Russians, Arabs and other unsavoury nationals to launder their money....

HappyWinter · 28/12/2020 14:14

Sovereign Individuals like Rees-Mogg's fathers book?

Looks like the Express paid someone to read the deal.

Well there's 2 days to fix it Grin

Looks like good old Boris wasn't a terribly good negotiator. Who would have thought it? Still cue more EU bashing from the right wing press. How long will they be able to milk this?
