Apparently negotiations are in the black hole of the EU tunnel or should that be on the back of the fantasy of the Boris Bridge?

Another week closer to complete meltdown.

I'm guessing that our world beating customs solution will be based on blackboard and chalk.

Scotland’s smaller fishermen say they could be wiped out if a Brexit deal makes their catch more expensive to sell overseas or delays their exports to EU countries

https://news.stv.tv/feature/fishermen-warn-bad-brexit-trade-deal-could-wipe-them-out?top

Fishing forms less than 0.1% of the UK economy.
.........
Boats like these make up around three quarters of the Scottish fleet.
But questions over access to markets and potential increases in costs mean the future for many is looking uncertain.
The promised benefits of Brexit feel a long way from here.
........
“It is not viable as it is just now so it’s just going to be a total disaster if you add on 10% tariffs.

It would be the end for nearly all the boats.
There is nobody disposes of income locally like fishermen do so it would have a huge effect on the economy and the town.

“I did support Brexit because we couldn’t really be any worse off than we were or are, that was my general thinking, we couldn’t be any worse.”

TheABC · 14/10/2020 11:33

There's absolutely nothing Stanmer can say about Brexit that will offer an advantage or influence policy. Silence and space is probably the best way forward.

This is Johnson's affair. He set the mandate, got the job...let's see what he comes up with. Call me old-fashioned, but I always thought Governments were there to govern. The opposition is there to oppose.

Zebracat · 14/10/2020 11:46

Maybe I am naive, but I don’t think Starmer’s intervention is opportunistic at all, and it certainly won’t be popular. I think this is a politician doing what he genuinely believes to be right.

Basically they are building Sangatte on our side of the channel. They'll need facilities for a small town 24/7

I can't see 7,000 stationary lorries being a target for thieves, luckily. Otherwise things might get really out of hand.

I get where you are coming from, but perhaps if the UK was not so unequal and hierarchical that people like that knew damn well the realities of their lives were deemed to be the subject of moaning whining fantasists, or at least of no consequence, much the same as Barnardo thought homeless waifs were not real until he saw them himself, then Brexit would never have happened.

Now we're all going to pay.

Export guidance for poultry going to the EU

Competent authority certificates for farming or chilling methods
The UK government will issue certificates, however they may not be available from 1 January 2021. You can either export poultry meat to the EU without a certificate or remove optional indications.
To do this you must remove all optional indications from any:
• packaging
• labelling
• accompanying documentation
If you export without a certificate, your goods may be delayed or rejected at an EU border.

Are they saying that we won't be ready, some mistake, surely?

prettybird · 14/10/2020 12:43

So let me get this right Confused

It's supposedly the businesses' fault that they've not got themselves ready with the documentation required from 1 January, but the Government dies t yet have all the right documentation ready Confused

What's the Government's excuse? HmmAngry

Jason118 · 14/10/2020 12:43

I think the issue of Pet Passports for travel from NI to ROI is a indicator for everything else. Taken from uk gov advice today on travelling with dogs cats and (weirdly) ferrets:

Pet travel to Northern Ireland
There will be no significant changes to pet movements between Great Britain and Northern Ireland. They should continue in a very similar way to as they do now. Further guidance will be provided in due course on pet travel to Northern Ireland.

Seems to suggest that you can take your dog to NI from GB then wander over to the EU willy nilly.

A Brexit and Tory supporting friend tried to criticise Starmer for his call of a circuit breaker lockdown. It was interesting how even my friend's tone of voice changed from any previous tone when he's criticised Johnson's handling of Covid (more strident, dismissive, and more personal).

At which point I noted how ALL of Covid management was and is entirely down to the Tory government and thank god that it was the Tories.

Because if Labour tried to do any of the measures that the Tories have put into place wrt economic support or lockdown measures there would be no support from either the press or the strident Tory voting electorate.

Not going to get into the rights and wrongs of the Liverpool regulations but i have to say as pr goes this is a blinder. I'm sure this pub will do a roaring trade when it reopens.

DW was born in Liverpool (Bootle) and spent the first 2 years of life there before moving to Brum (and dodging both accents). But on visits to see DWs aunt, and general sightseeing (the Museums and Walker gallery are jewels) I've developed a soft spot for Scousers.

ListeningQuietly · 14/10/2020 17:31

That is indeed rather cool RTB

TBH I can understand why the folks of Liverpool went a bit wild last night.
They are being picked on.
A city wide lockdown without massively ramped up T~T~T and financial and social and mental health support
is NOT going to be adhered to
or work.
But then watching Derek Hatton baiting the current City leadership
history repeats itself

I note that our pro Brexit chums have not come back to explain how the minor issues can ever be resolved
funny that

The - increasing ? - problem with YouGov (and presumably all polling outfits) is that a truthful answer to an awful lot of their questions (certainly what I put) is "Don't know".

Hopefully results like the above (which I hope causes great anxiety in Conservative HQ) will remind us that opinion polls are only so much use when dealing with complex issues like Covid.

It's also worth noting that as it stands the question above - and responses to it - are a complete and utter waste of everyones time and efforts anyway. Although this is the Brexit forum, so it kind of fits.
