So having given the benefit of the doubt...

... whats your reflections?

Good (and yes do have some thoughts on the positive - challenge yourself on this one as its important) and the bad (and yes this is the easy bit but keep it within reason)?

...

The trade with France is crucial for Welsh sheep farmers – of the 40% of lamb exported from Wales, 90% is sold to Europe, much of it via Rungis.

“We were told by the operators of Rungis that there would still be demand for our lamb after Brexit, but that they wouldn’t be in a position to buy it if they had to pay a 46% import tariff,” said Mr Evans.

DGR I thought the Welsh vote for Brexit was swung to Leave via the English incomers.

Still maybe we can all eat Welsh lamb instead of chlorinated chicken and hormone ridden beef?

DGRossetti · 29/07/2020 11:32

Do you know something ? And it's the horrible reality for all Brexiteers, really.

No one gives a shit.

Are you a farmer facing uncertainly and bankruptcy thanks to Brexit ? Well guess what ? No one gives a shit.

Replace "farmer" with "fisherman" and any other industry sector you like, and rinse and repeat.

You won. What more did you want ?

(Obviously "no one" is hyperbole. But certainly as a shorthand for "no one that can do anything about it" it works).

Back to Boris:

Second wave in two weeks and action against second wave in five weeks, warns Johnson

THE prime minister has warned that a second wave of coronavirus could begin in two weeks with urgent action against it scheduled for three weeks later.

Boris Johnson told Britain he was extremely concerned about outbreaks ‘bubbling up’ in Britain by August 12th, and when that happened the government would act immediately following September 2nd.

He said: “As always we are led by the science, but we are also keeping a respectful and sensible distance from the science. A distance of about three weeks.

So should infections begin to spike around Europe, we will not be slow to react by ordering all state employees back to work in offices, to save Pret.

“Should we then see a corresponding spike in Britain, I will waste no time in imposing quarantine on all travellers from abroad.

“And once the second wave has unmistakably begun, I pledge to act fast by making a speech defending the ancient right of free-born citizens of this country to go to the pub, and their wives to go to Next.

“Finally, and only once it is far too late, we will announce pubs, shops and of course schools are closing but inexplicably not until three days later. Like clockwork.”

HoneysuckIejasmine · 29/07/2020 12:53

DHs company is starting to talk about getting them back in the office. For no purpose really as they won't be allowed to go to high street at lunch time. He'll be staying home anyway as I'm vulnerable.

Translates to
Boris Johnson told Britain he was extremely concerned about outbreaks ‘bubbling up’ in Britain by August 12th, and when that happened the government would continue with their summer holidays while Covid spread again and try to act immediately following the scheduled return to Parliament just before September 2nd.

Cos the virus is also on its' summer holidays now right?

Did you make that up, DGR? Your post at 11:46, I mean.

No, I was quoting from elsewhere ...
QueenOfThorns · 29/07/2020 14:24

But it is fake news, isn’t it? It was fine up to ’we are also keeping a respectful and sensible distance from the science‘. That does actually sound like the kind of utter nonsense that he might say, but it goes downhill very quickly after that Grin

Was it ? What is "fake news" anymore ? Is it a US president saying you should inject bleach to cure the virus ?

Is it a UK Prime Minister not having a clue what his ministers are saying ?

Is it only fake news if Clavinova swoops in and rebuts it with a reaction cut and paste ?

I don't know anymore. And neither do you.

Maybe we never did ?

DGRossetti · 29/07/2020 15:26

See what I mean. If you had tried to say a year ago that a rabid Brexiteer would feel to another country to start again as a "refugee", I'd have accused you of nicking it from the Daily Mash.

I wonder if he'd learn Spanish and integrate ?

DGR what's your source then?

For what ? The 11:47 post ? Goodness knows. Someone posted it on another forum (yes they do exist) and they'd seen it on another forum and so on.

It seems in the space of 3 hours I have been grilled more over one satirical post than the entire Leave campaign was over that fucking bus.

Says it all really.

I may well give up citing sources anyway. After all in the main, a carefully researched and cross referenced article with cites and sources can be dismissed with a single "bloke said". And no one is paying for that work anyway.

DGR thank you for the pizza thief note. Reminds me what a great language German is, especially for sarcastic bollocking.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 29/07/2020 17:40

No need to be so touchy, DGR! Question sources is what we do on these threads, you know that. Therein lies their value, compared to the rest of t'internet.

DGRossetti · 29/07/2020 17:49

Ah, so it's thief ! That passed me by. But now I see "klauer" and remember my Greek "kleptos" it does sort of hove into view.

Of course if I'd really had my wits about me, I'd have pointed my phone at it and had an instant (if Googly) translation. I guess that's a clear sign you are getting old. You forget you have the easy option Smile.

A few years ago at an awayday, I got chatting with a colleague from India. He said he'd just got back from taking his family to Paris for a weekend. When I asked if any of them spoke French I got a "WTF are you on about ?" look, and he showed me they managed the whole weekend using the Google Translate app to read and speak what they needed.

JeSuisPoulet · 29/07/2020 19:39

Came on here to post about the new M16 boss (govt selected of course) being the former Turkish Ambassador and got lost in DGR's language video - amazing! My mum used to do that to people too. My Nigerian friend nearly fell off her chair when she stayed over exeat and my mum went through each tribal language! Made for a rather boring weekend for me though...

Or actually, 'what Nixon knew to be there all along and summoned forth knowing full well what he was doing'.

HateIsNotGood · 29/07/2020 20:25

I really don't wish to interrupt the discussion (I do read these threads when I run out of things to read - as my reading, etc is wide-ranging), as I well realize the inevitable outcomes of any input of mine, and others.

But, purely out of curiositty DGF, I'm not alone in giving a shit about UK Farmers and Fisherman and many other sectors too. Whilst I understand that I'm in a minority for giving a shit, I think you might be incorrect in stating that no one does.

JeSuisPoulet · 29/07/2020 20:28

Ah Hate! Have you been looking at these petitions people are sharing about keeping farming off the table for trade and seen the farmers in London protesting it? Glad to see you are finally worried as we are!

HateIsNotGood · 29/07/2020 20:37

My concerns for farmers, fishers and other hands-on workers pre-date Brexit. Posters here may or may not have been concerned prior to Brexitbor may have since developed a 'faux concern'.

We'll just have to see how things pan out in this very different world we now live in.

As for petitions, there are so many, I really do not pay them any attention at all.
