Which laws, that the UK didn't want, will be the first to go?

When the transition period ends and as of the 1st January 2021 we are "truly free and independent of the EU and all the laws and rules they impose on us," which ones will be the first to go? Which ones were forced upon us? Or which ones did we vote against but ended up with anyway?

Is there a record of the process to invoke laws and how different countries voted?

I think it’s more about laws the rotors don’t want, such as those giving employees more rights-working time directive etc

ListeningQuietly · 01/02/2020 20:21

Rees Mogg wants Air Quality to be on a par with Delhi

Mercer - who funds lots of it - is against paid Maternity leave

LowcaAndroidow · 01/02/2020 20:21

That one about having straight bananas - or was it bendy bananas?

SpecLosers · 01/02/2020 20:25

Bear in mind that a decision must be made by end of June this year.

Just saying. Many think 31/12 is the OUT date, but no. By the end of June this year BJ must decide whether to continue to Leave with no deal or TALK and agree multiple Trade Deals.

Guess which will happen?

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 01/02/2020 22:31

I did like our kite mark but read that it wasn't making a comeback.

Will we go back to only selling things in pounds and ounces?

If the EU are as bad as people say I'm surprised they didn't make us drive on the right to be like the rest.

Ooooh can we now import proper Mountain Dew with its brominated vegetable oil or whatever it was that the EU banned?

No deal.obvs 🤦

TheGreatWave · 01/02/2020 23:56

No, we are just getting rid of the 'eu laws' but I think it is probably the ones that allow a prisoner to have a pillow or such that they will want to see go first.

Shame it offers them protection too, but you know , pillows.

But, the good old daily express. Yes there were some issues with some things, but seriously, you wanted out because of these.

Another vote for environmental and workers' rights being slashed. BRITAIN IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS. Please come exploit us.

DeDoRonRon · 02/02/2020 12:28

Worker and environmental protections, I should think, and other regulatory protections that the super rich don't like.

Mockers2020Vision · 02/02/2020 12:37

The one about having to put meat in the sausages, which ruins the flavour of the rusks and permitted antioxidents.

Removal of unpatriotic re'striction's on the u'se of apostrophe's.

2stepsonthewater · 02/02/2020 12:49

Let's hope GDPR, but sadly probably not.

ZenNudist · 02/02/2020 12:49

This, plus quality standards

iklboo · 02/02/2020 12:51

The one which bans the death penalty.

We haven't had the death penalty in the UK since at least a decade before we joined the 'common market' in 1973. It's not an EU law 'forced' upon us.

2stepsonthewater · 02/02/2020 12:52

Ooh! I've got one! I hope that St Dalfour jam will be allowed to be called 'jam'. It isn't allowed to currently because it doesn't have added sugar (sweetened with fruit juice). And yes it's French, but maybe they'll make a special label for the UK with the word jam on.

YappityYapYap · 02/02/2020 12:52

Correct me if I'm wrong or have dreamt this up but before we joined the EU, was there not something like 2 weeks paid annual leave and you had to buy more annual leave if you wanted more? Mostly in working class type industries and jobs? Educated jobs tended to have better annual leave entitlements due to large companies wanting to attract more skilled and educated staff? I'm sure I heard a story from my mil that she had to buy annual leave to try and be off some of the holidays for DH as she only got 2 weeks then was thrilled when we joined the EU and it become much better

fullfact.org/europe/eu-facts-behind-claims-uk-influence/

Very few EU decisions were actively opposed by UK.

FrogsFrogs · 02/02/2020 13:00

I think the current govt will want first to weaken workers rights and protections for minorites women etc

A reduction in standards around health and safety, emissions, food quality etc to make it cheaper to produce/ buy goods and food.

slipperywhensparticus · 02/02/2020 13:01

Weren't our laws better than theirs for workers....I'm not sure they will repeal working time directive etc what is the point when they could make money elsewhere?

Any good buisness knows that they need to look after the workers

FrogsFrogs · 02/02/2020 13:02

There are lots and lots of not good businesses though.

Look at start happened with zero hour contracts.

Companies are successful in countries with less employee protection.

They might put the petrol back to gallons inadvertently knocking up the price as it goes.
But I think the working hours cap might go.

iklboo · 02/02/2020 13:26

Agreed...but it is the most „unifying“ characteristic of Leavers. It is part of their character as Authoritarian Followers.

Well they're going to be bloody disappointed - and long may they be disappointed. The vast majority of the UK are against the death penalty, even most of the Leavers. Nobody I knew who voted leave wants the death penalty. Maybe the vociferous ones, definitely not most.
