What are you most looking forward to POST-Brexit?

I was a remain voter, and voted tactically against the Tories. I lost.

But onwards and upwards! We’re getting Brexit in January, like it or not, so I was just wondering what everyone was looking forward to the most?

I asked on a different pro-Brexit thread but nobody gave me an answer.

For me it’s the 350 million to the NHS with no trade deals with Trump. Or the continuing Peace in NI with no messing around with the GFA. Or the trade deals we’ve been promised without any reduction in standards.

I’m so ready to be convinced of how brilliant Brexit will be! Let me hear your positives, please Flowers

It might even be an England and Wales passport too.

MadHouseUpNorth · 19/12/2019 14:29

Independent Scotland and my Scottish passport.

TheElementsSong · 19/12/2019 14:40

I found these for what it's worth. I've attached a chart from the last link (parliamentary report from several years ago).

Having an EU passport allows access to pension schemes, educational opportunities at reduced individual cost, social benefits, social security, health care to hold elected office in an EU country, vote in local politicians and of course have representation in the EU parliament. Also more everyday things such as right to buy property and open bank accounts. Basically the right to make another country your home.

dimsum123 · 19/12/2019 15:49

I am so depressed over this. Rather than taking back control, remainers have lost all control over our future lives in the UK, we are being dragged into the brexit quagmire against our will and will be made to suffer the dire consequences along with the Brexiteers who seem to actually want to bring hardship and misery onto themselves in the faint hope of a better future after they've passed away.

But why should I have to suffer too along with them when I've done nothing wrong and I didn't choose this?

It is so frustrating to be forced into and be stuck in this car which is heading for the nearest cliff and there's absolutely nothing I can do to get out of it.

Far from taking back control, for me it's a complete loss of control over mine and my family's future. Sad

TheABC · 19/12/2019 16:43

My feeling too, @dimsum123. My partner is not keen, but my 2020 resolution is to save up and skill up so we have the option to move, if necessary.

MysteryTripAgain · 19/12/2019 17:11

History of course shows that for centuries, all the way back to feudalism and beyond, no one ever, ever sat back and let others do all the work. That happened when the UK joined the EU.

What a load of cobblers. Happens all over the World everyday.

mindproject · 19/12/2019 17:14

Remember when Cameron was voted in on the promise of fixing 'Broken Britain'. If you think he fixed it and not made it a whole lot worse then you're a total moron.

MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2019 17:16

Oh yeh bloody Broken Britain he took it and dropped it on the floor from a height for good measure

dimsum123 · 19/12/2019 17:20

@TheABC, good plan, I hope it works out.

We unfortunately are tied here until the DCs finish their education, so another 9/10 years.

After that we will definitely look to move, and hopefully the DCs will want to come too.

One of the best things about this country was the NHS, but once that's gone there really is no reason to stay, and that's quite apart from the damage that's going to be done by Brexit. The Tories were always planning to sell off the NHS, Brexit has just made it quicker for them.

The country is going to be even poorer once people start leaving. The only people left will be the Tories and the Brexiteers Shock

TheABC · 19/12/2019 17:37

@dimsum123, thanks.

The only people left will be the Tories and the Brexiteers

To be fair, I think the Tories and Brexiteers would be quite happy with that scenario.

I think Ireland (and later, Scotland if they achieve independence) will benefit greatly from Brexit. It could end up being an unintentional rebalancing away from England.

Jason118 · 19/12/2019 17:40

I'm quite looking forward to England being renamed Gilead - not!

MysteryTripAgain · 19/12/2019 18:16

I’ve been back through numerous Brexit threads and can’t find the so called wonderful reasons for leaving the EU - probably as they don’t exist whereas it’s easy to list the positive reasons for remaining in the EU as they are so numerous

Being the third largest contributor to the EU, but at same time have an ever increasing trade deficit with the EU (currently 64 Billion) is not a positive reason to remain in the EU.

By contract the UK has a trade surplus of 44 Billion with Non EU countries and does not contribute £50 million per day for the privilege of being able to trade with such countries.

Simple when you look at the numbers.

AuldAlliance · 19/12/2019 18:21

Perhaps the advantages/disadvantages depend slightly on what it is you want to trade and what the transport costs are...

The UK currently trades as part of the EU, so there is no simple way to predict what the trade balance will be once it starts to try and negotiate its own trade agreements with other countries, EU and non-EU.

Jason118 · 19/12/2019 18:37

Unfortunately @MysteryTripAgain doesn't understand that a trade deficit (in either direction) isn't of itself a bad thing. Also demonstrates a profound lack of understanding of what we got for £50 million. Bless.

Pumperthepumper · 19/12/2019 18:50

A trade deficit doesn’t mean we’re 64 billion worse off MysteryTripAgain, it means we’ve bought more from them than they’ve bought from us.

And mugs like me who for various reasons are unable to leave. It is shit, but it saddens me that people are gladly hoping things get worse for 'me'.

MysteryTripAgain · 19/12/2019 19:04

Hahaha. Without realising it you have acknowledged that the outcome of Brexit cannot be known with certainty. However, for over 3 years 16.1 million people have claimed to have known what the future will be with complete certainty.

Impossible of course as same people would all be multi billionaires by know as they could clean up on the stock market everyday because they know; what the future holds, when share prices will rise and fall and hence when to buy and sell.

AuldAlliance · 19/12/2019 19:10

Hahaha. Without realising it you have acknowledged that the outcome of Brexit cannot be known with certainty.

Since my point was precisely that the exact trade figures cannot be predicted, far less based on existing ones, I was well aware that I was stating that the outcome is impossible to predict.

I'm not entirely sure why that makes you cackle, nor how it fits in with your peculiar argument that all those against Brexit were absolutely certain of its exact consequences and that the uncertainty of it all means they were therefore wrong.

Peregrina · 19/12/2019 19:26

We are constantly told that the Brexiteers knew exactly what they were voting for. It looks as though they can't know either, unless there are parallel universes one in which the future is predictable.

Pumperthepumper · 19/12/2019 19:34

Mystery I’m not sure you know what you’re laughing at. If you voted based on the reasons you gave us, you have absolutely no cause to think anything will be better post-Brexit.

I will copy your list and keep it, thanks. If Leaver's want to call me a saddo, be my guest.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 19/12/2019 19:46

Don't fret Parker - my MP in Cornwall has promised he will get his government to replace the EU funding like for like.
