Brexit Arms: Election Night Lock-In

Welcome to the Brexit Arms - it's going to be a stormy old night! We're about to be buffeted from right to left and back again with no real idea what the landscape will finally look like in the morning. All are welcome to weather the storm in the warmth and safety of the Arms - but please remember this a hospitable establishment so let's try and keep it that way.

We're kicking off the evening with our Back to the 70's theme night while we wait for the big main event to unfold. The juke box is loaded with all your 70's favourites. Feel free to dance round your handbags but please, no dancing on the tables…. this could be seen as having too much fun.

As always, we've got a nice big pot of PG Tips on the brew and Camp coffee by the mugfuls in addition to our usual alcoholic beverages.

On a serious note, we know that tonight's events are going to cause some upsets. With this in mind, the mint imperial bowls on the bar have been filled with Diocalms and we urge all our customers to make use of these. There should be enough to go round as long as nobody starts trying to stockpile. We simply cannot risk the need for plumbers to unblock our loos on Friday morning, as they could have been called out on strike by then.

Landladies on duty tonight will be:

20:00-22:00 Greenish (with Babychams, Cherry B's and vol au vents)
2200-midnight Twattage (with Classic Dmitris and cheeseboard)
Midnight-0200 Singing (with stiff brandies to calm the nerves, plus a selection of fresh nuts)
0200-0400 Hate (possibly with Albanian delicacies and a hangover cure)

We'd like to get the glitter ball turning with this absolute classic:

….fingers crossed similar scenes will abound in the Arms by the end of tonight. Enjoy!

P.s. When ordering drinks between 8pm and 10pm please supply your own drinks emojis. Thankyou!

I'm sure I heard a wee while ago that Richard Burgon may not be safe

That would be glorious!

Limer · 13/12/2019 00:55

Nice one Defenbaker!

Welcome to the future Grin

spadeo · 13/12/2019 00:57

Walkingdeadfangirl - you’re completely right. Been flicking between BBC & Sky all night - not even thought of channel 4.

They’re getting well personal with him. Rylands currently grilling him on his sons and their relationship.

OMG just listen to the vitriol against Corbyn now. Will be very interested to see the post-mortem of this one. I've deliberately been non-committal on social media the whole time, my thinking being that I want to let the Corbynites wallow in their own bubble and mistakenly think they're on the road to victory. Meanwhile I've actually been out in the real world, speaking to real people every day and quietly planting those seeds for Boris Grin

Students especially - it's been so easy to let them drown in their own sea of self-belief. I remember when I was 19, I thought I was important too Grin

Limer · 13/12/2019 01:09

Wow, Nuneaton Shock

Let's hope that's repeated across the W Mids Grin

Defenbaker · 13/12/2019 01:09

Hi Everyone! Thanks for the warm welcome! Smile

This round's on me (slaps cash on bar).WineGin

I've felt depressed about the Brexit limbo for months, and was beginning to feel guilty about voting tory, due to Bojo's less than perfect behaviour and the effects of UC on the disabled. But I voted for the party that has promised to get Brexit done (albeit it won't be simple and the initial deal is only the start of many) and it seems I'm not alone. I realise the "oven ready" deal isn't perfect, and maybe is too soft a Brexit for some, but even if we are still linked to the EU we should end up paying less in, and having more control in some ways. I hope we can use some of the money saved to support the NHS, social services and our own farmers (who generally abide by much higher standards of animal welfare than the other EU countries - hardly a level playing field). I'm sure the deal isn't perfect, but that was never going to happen, when "divorcing" 27 other countries.

Cheers everyone!

I'm fb friends with a few bright young things that I was at uni with the past few years.

I've not been on fb hardly at all over last few weeks, but today I saw one of the girls had put some pro Corbyn, regurgitated momentum drivel - was funny because her parents & a few other relatives have been disagreeing with her (working class family)

I work as a civvie now on RAF camp (I'm ex RAF) - big age range, almost all men in my bit - I've not heard a single pro-Corbyn voice at all. All are vocally anti Corbyn & those who have spoken about voting were all Tory.

SingingLily · 13/12/2019 01:14

Lots of Forces and ex-Forces round here, Dusty. No chance for Jezbollah here.

Sounds like Darlington and Workington might have turned blue...

DustyDiamond · 13/12/2019 01:15

Ooh! Workington man result coming up?!

SingingLily · 13/12/2019 01:17

Very soon. This is just an early indication.

Also Ian Lavery's seat (current Labour Party chairman) has gone to a recount.

DustyDiamond · 13/12/2019 01:22

Ian Lavery is a shit

Limer · 13/12/2019 01:22

WORKINGTON MAN!!!!

DustyD salute to you being ex-RAF! [salute] that's not an emoji but should be!

The thing is, although I sort of want to tell it how it is, to revel in the victory, I don't want to tell Labour why they lost Grin Now, to me it's transparently obvious - but what I see on social media is simply another world. Even within my own family, my own relatives have repeatedly argued with me about this result - but lo and behold, I'm right, they're wrong Grin And needless to say, they're young and I'm old Grin

SingingLily · 13/12/2019 01:22

Workington 💙💙💙!!!

GreenishMe · 13/12/2019 01:24

Oh! Workington too

SingingLily · 13/12/2019 01:24

And needless to say, they're young and I'm old

I'm not young enough to think I know everything!!!

DustyDiamond · 13/12/2019 01:25

Now, to me it's transparently obvious - but what I see on social media is simply another world

Agree

It does seem so clear but they just can't seem to see it themselves 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yay for Blue Workington Man 🙌

AgeLikeWine · 13/12/2019 01:26

The Tories winning in Workington. Wow...

DustyDiamond · 13/12/2019 01:26

Labour have lost a Scottish seat!

SingingLily · 13/12/2019 01:27

Never mind that, Labour has lost the plot!!!

Limer · 13/12/2019 01:30

I'm not young enough to think I know everything!!! Grin But the ones who sing "ohhhh Jeremy Corbyn" ARE young enough! That's the beauty of what's happened. The young have lived on SM, been to rallies, joined in the chanting - and thought - it's in the bag! But they've totally forgotten about the other 98% of the voting population Grin It's actually easier now that it was in the 80s. Just keep them pinned on SM (and Mumsnet, of course, look how many thousands of pro-Labour posts have been made since 2017!). They'll never meet real people Grin

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 13/12/2019 01:30

Darlington!!!!

Limer · 13/12/2019 01:31

DARLINGTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SingingLily · 13/12/2019 01:31

Darlington 💙💙💙!!!

Dapplegrey · 13/12/2019 01:32

Darlington!!
Yay!

SingingLily · 13/12/2019 01:32

"ohhhh Jeremy Corbyn"

You know, "Byeeee Jeremy Corbyn" works just as well...
