I never have!

OP posts:
AnchorDownDeepBreath · 12/12/2019 12:36

No, never. I'm in a marginal seat, too, I thought this was probably our best shot at having exit polls!

thehorseandhisboy · 12/12/2019 12:36

No, but live in an extremely safe seat so not surprised.

PotteringAlong · 12/12/2019 12:37

No, but I’m also in a v safe seat

IsabelleSE19 · 12/12/2019 12:37

Never. Gutting. But I always seem to live in safe seats so probably not surprising.

ElenadeClermont · 12/12/2019 13:44

No, but we are not marginal.

Wtfdoipick · 12/12/2019 13:47

Yes and No, I was asked at the last election and they were here again today but they only ask 1 in every so many and it wasn't my turn

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 12/12/2019 13:53

No, never. There was somebody the other year but I wasn't asked.

BlaueLagune · 12/12/2019 14:38

No I haven't. How does it work - how do they know people are telling the truth about how they voted?

ExpletiveFairylighted · 12/12/2019 14:45

Never, but I've always lived in safe seats.

ifonly4 · 12/12/2019 14:46

No, but we're in a very safe Tory constituency, so why bother.

FaFoutis · 12/12/2019 14:47

I'm usually asked, but there was nobody doing a poll on the door today.

ChristmasSpirtsOnTheRocksPleas · 12/12/2019 14:47

Never happened to me.

reginafelangee · 12/12/2019 14:48

Yes I'm registered on YouGov so take part in all the polls.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 12/12/2019 14:48

They always ask where I am, every single time I’ve voted.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 12/12/2019 14:49

Having says, I still haven’t voted today, so maybe something has changed.

reginafelangee · 12/12/2019 14:49

Exit polls are all done online these days.

If you are asked about voting outside your polling station it will be a political party activist for their records and not a polling company.

Wtfdoipick · 12/12/2019 14:59

It was inside the polling station not outside and it was Ipsos for the bbc, They use the same polling stations everytime so they can compare better against previous results

a guide to the exit polls

noodlenosefraggle · 12/12/2019 15:04

No I'm in a marginal too. There is always someone outside with a blue rosette asking for our polling card numbers though. Not sure why?!

fedup21 · 12/12/2019 15:07

Really, I didn’t know that.

So they wouldn’t get to know about the voting choice of all the 75+ who don’t use the internet-my parents for example!?

noodlenosefraggle - they ask for your poll card number so you can be ticked off the list.

It's matched against the canvass database that each party will have, which indicates the likelihood of you being 'their' voter (either because you have told a canvasser or because the profiling software indicates you to be in a specific demographic).

Once it's known that someone has voted then they are taken off all the calling/door knocking lists.

Parties get lists of everyone who has voted after every election so they get the data in the end - giving them your number merely stops you getting loads of calls tonight.

Really ?
And are those collated to pick up the fact that lots of people are registered in more than one place ?
(students and second home owners)

elfonshelf · 12/12/2019 16:30

They're not collated.

To make life really fun for the people that work on these things, there is no overall database and each council area seems to think it's a fun idea to have a different format and different columns.

Local parties only get their own constituency database.

It is possible to do a crosscheck but would be like looking for a needle in a haystack unless you already had the name and addresses of the individual you suspected of voting twice.

The whole system needs a massive overhaul.

People do keep an eye on new registrations - friend told me a few weeks ago that they spotted 9 new postal votes registered to what they knew was a 1 bed flat. It was duly flagged.

Parky04 · 12/12/2019 16:39

No and in a marginal seat.

ListeningQuietly · 12/12/2019 16:45

I'm not accusing anybody of voting twice
My concern more is that students and young people are accused of turning out in low numbers
but in fact it is that the roll includes them twice when they can only vote once ...

In the Locals of course, voting twice is perfectly legal if it is for different tiers
