Speaker Bercow is gone.

Speculation that Johnson is parachuting into Rutland.

Rumours that the Brexit Party won't contest the election.

A new speaker to be elected on Monday.

Parliament to dissolve next week.

Brexit? Oh we've forgotten that until Friday 13th...

Roland Smith @rolandmcs**
No Deal has receded to a point where it is unlikely

It's worth taking a moment to let that sink in

Nicky Morgan was interviewed in today's Times and said that as far as she is concerned (I know she's stepping down) no deal is dead for the Tories (however, she also said that Boris is growing in gravitas as PM - erm -are we in the same universe?). But someone else in the Times said the choices are these:

BXP - leave with no deal

Tory - leave with a BJ's deal

Labour - leave (probably) but stay in CU and SM - depends on PV

Libdem - revoke the Art 50 notification.

Could be true - but what happens after transition...

Re the Doncaster rally

The event has already achieved media attention, with journalists from The Express and various other newspapers contacting one of the organisers with interest in covering it.

It's time to put our money where our mouth is. It's time to get up off the sofa, put down the keyboard, and take action: for democracy, and for Brexit.

GrinGrinGrin

So, I'm expecting front page headlines in the Brexit press of The People's Protests. Reports of blocked oil depots, and how about the huge protests at the other venues too? Wink

In Scotland add:
SNP- leave UK, fingers crossed to rejoin Europe

DGRossetti · 02/11/2019 17:01

this page www.crowdfunder.co.uk/ignite-the-civil-rebellion-2019 is rather splendid

On 11th October 2019 we successfully raised £2,755 with 181 supporters in 15 days

£2755/181/15 = £1.02 per supporter per day.

I think a lot of hardcore Brexiteers really need to learn how to be disappointed ....

HesterThrale · 02/11/2019 17:01

I hope you get good crops from your fruit trees. pretty. Might need them after B**t.
Your neighbours sound nice.

Scotland will be a very attractive option after Brexit. Well, already is. Relatively sensible governance. I don't understand how two adjacent countries can have two such different ethoses. (How do you pluralise ethos?!)

Well I do actually. Sad

ArseDarkly · 02/11/2019 17:02

Unknown street artist tobee, always cheers me up! Smile

QueenOfThorns · 02/11/2019 17:09

I don't understand how two adjacent countries can have two such different ethoses.

See also the USA and Canada. One of the most striking things for me about the film Bowling for Columbine is when they cross the border into Canada and nobody has guns or even bothers to lock their front door Grin

ListeningQuietly · 02/11/2019 17:23

when they cross the border into Canada and nobody has guns or even bothers to lock their front door
Gun ownership per head in Canada is not far behind the USA
which makes the difference even more interesting

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 02/11/2019 17:24

2755/181/15 = £1.02 per supporter per day

Who’d you get the 2p from?

Everyone

(😀 oldie but a goodie)

TheMShip · 02/11/2019 17:29

Listening you're very wrong on gun ownership stats. From en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estimated_number_of_civilian_guns_per_capita_by_country

USA 120
Canada 35

The composition of guns is also very different. There are relatively few handguns owned privately in Canada, it's mostly rifles and shotguns.

TheMShip · 02/11/2019 17:30

Just to clarify those are numbers per 100 people.

Basilpots · 02/11/2019 17:30

ListeningQuietly · 02/11/2019 17:31

Mship
I know that more Americans have lots of guns but IIRC the proportion of Canadians with guns is very similar to the proportion of Americans
and YYY that Canadians have far, far fewer assault rifles and pistols.
Will try to find the link :-)

TheMShip · 02/11/2019 17:34

According to a report by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, roughly 11,000 homicides were committed using firearms in the U.S. in 2011. Statistics Canada reports in the same year Canada had 158 homicides committed using firearms.

The difference is partly the different rate of handgun ownership, particularly for self defense, partly gun safety culture, and partly gun control laws.

There are also many accidental gun deaths and suicides - roughly twice as many together as homicides.

TheMShip · 02/11/2019 17:36

Canada:

Recent estimates indicate that 26 percent of Canadian households own at least one firearm. Ninety-five percent of firearm-owning households in Canada possess long guns and less than 12 percent own handguns.

America:

Thirty percent of U.S. adults say they personally own a gun, while a larger percentage, 43%, report living in a gun household.

TheMShip · 02/11/2019 17:39

Sorry this is rather a bugbear of mine. I grew up in a gun owning household and was drilled in gun safety. I have fond memories of filling cartridge boxes with my dad before a target shooting match, and my brother still hunts deer in season. There's nothing wrong with guns as tools handled properly by trained people and stored securely. They are insanely stupid for self defense.

ListeningQuietly · 02/11/2019 17:45

TheMShip
Shooting stuff to eat is absolutely fine in my book.
Assault rifles are for committing assaults.
Gun laws should reflect those realities Grin

placemats · 02/11/2019 17:50

TheMShip I just knew you were going to say this after I saw the picture of your garden.

Now I leave/leaf (no pun intended) tidying up my garden until a mild October day, but I haven't been able to do that this year. I will cut back tomorrow and hope for the best. But no way am I mowing the lawn. It would be covered in leaves the minute I admire it - seriously comedy show of leaves falling down.

ArseDarkly · 02/11/2019 17:57

Heard a Brexit party member (didn't catch the name) on LBC earlier saying they would prefer to remain than accept Johnson's deal

Basilpots · 02/11/2019 17:58

Arse Daniel Hannan says the same.

placemats · 02/11/2019 18:00

Well when 1 million people turn out for a people's vote, of all political persuasions, you do really have to ask yourself the question.

Is Brexit where it's at?

TheMShip · 02/11/2019 18:01

pretty our pear tree is still dropping leaves but with the shed in the way they never hit the east bed so I cut back and add new bulbs relatively early. I always end up cleaning up the leaves at the back and west side in December when they're all really yuck and wet. The raspberries on the west have been a real disappointment, so they're getting ripped out and I'm putting in beans and squash next year. Might help if we crash out!

ArseDarkly · 02/11/2019 18:03

S'cuse my ignorance Basil, never heard of him. He's an MEP but also pro-brexit?

ListeningQuietly · 02/11/2019 18:07

I took out my climbing beans today
will mulch and then cover the soil when it stops raining
