DfE lied about No Deal preparations - schools are not ready

Despite saying in July that plans had been made to mitigate risks to schools, the DfE has refused to provide these in response to an FOI request.

In what other areas have we been lied to about No-Deal planning?

Potential fuel shortages in the event of a no deal exit.

The link shows a possible long term scenario - caused by an influx of cheap fuel.

noblegiraffe · 29/09/2019 15:15

Ah on cue here’s Clav to reassure us that the government isn’t a total clusterfuck.

Have you ever been to Kent during Operation Stack, Clav? The roads are technically open.

Have you ever been to Kent during Operation Stack

No, but it says, “Operation Brock” in the update. Grin

bellinisurge · 29/09/2019 15:49

Clav is an expert on cutting and pasting stuff about Kent even though she doesn't live there.

Clavinova · 29/09/2019 15:55

Clav is an expert on cutting and pasting stuff about Kent even though she doesn't live there.

I have lived in Kent in the past - I still live in the South East.

From the link;

"Kent’s position as the gateway to Europe means that the UK’s readiness for a no-deal scenario strongly relies on Kent’s readiness."

bellinisurge · 29/09/2019 15:57

But you don't live in Kent.

Clavinova · 29/09/2019 15:58

But you don't live in Kent.

Neither do you.

bellinisurge · 29/09/2019 16:03

Nope. I don't. But I listen to people who do rather than cut and paste stuff at them.

Clavinova · 29/09/2019 16:13

Nope. I don't. But I listen to people who do rather than cut and paste stuff at them.

Listen to whom? James O'Brien on LBC?

I've linked to an update from Kent County Council.

bellinisurge · 29/09/2019 16:19

Nope. I don't live in London so I don't listen to O'Brien. Seen him on YouTube. Not really my thing.
I read what people on here who actually live in Kent have to say.
My own local Council are champion spin meisters so while I read what Kent Council say, there are people on here who are also in Kent. Surprisingly, trust in what the Council say is not at an all time high.

stucknoue · 29/09/2019 16:25

They are lying about meds, individual hospitals are stockpiling when they can but some drugs have very short shelf lives, my friend is a nurse, t1 diabetic and very worried because her meds come from Germany, her specialists are worried, that is, they shared it with her because she works there

Clavinova · 29/09/2019 16:26

I read what people on here who actually live in Kent have to say.

Oh, I see. But you have prepped for a nuclear holocaust/power outage as well as Brexit - should we believe you?

bellinisurge · 29/09/2019 16:28

I'm a general prepper. I make no secret of that. I'm advising people to be sensible, reasonable and act within their budget to get a three day buffer of food in so that they can stay away from the shops if necessary. I've been saying that for over a years on here.
But if you want to cast that as some sort of hysteria, go ahead. You already have an odd perspective on reality.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 29/09/2019 16:47

individual hospitals are stockpiling when they can

No they absolutely definitely are not. We’re not allowed to. There are already terrible shortages of hundreds of lines and stockpiling would make the current situation worse.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 29/09/2019 16:48

Sorry Stuck , that wasn’t supposed to be a dig at you. Flowers

Doubletrouble99 · 29/09/2019 17:23

bellini - I have in laws and other relatives in Kent and I certainly wouldn't rely on their opinion of what is due to happen in Kent if there's a no deal!
Unless anyone has specific knowledge of logistics/education/catering and lives in Kent then maybe.
As for the idea that children's nutrition will be severely affected, I think is a little far fetched.

bellinisurge · 29/09/2019 17:25

Did I say any of that? I just said I would prefer to hear from people who live in Kent as to how Operation whatever it is called today works in practice. If enough of them say it's fine then I'll accept that.

noblegiraffe · 29/09/2019 17:27

No, but it says, “Operation Brock” in the update.

You know what Operation Stack is? Not sure Brock is suddenly magic. It still involves using the M20 as a lorry park (the metal barrier is still there from March, pain in the arse).

I spoke with a friend last night who works in power plants. Their Brexit consumable plan is done and she is very concerned. The chemicals they rely on which are imported may be delayed which may lead to power shortages. Due to new tariffs they will cost 20% more, which inevitable will be passed to all consumers - families, small and large businesses, other industries, retail etc.

This will of course negatively impact on local council budgets to cover utility bills of statutory services including schools along with an increase in costs for all resources used.

She is one of the most logical, unflappable and wise people I know and she by her own words is terrified about what may happen.

ListeningQuietly · 29/09/2019 19:27

FWIW I lived and worked in East Kent in a past life
one lorry jammed in the wrong place can bring whole towns to a standstill
ten and its nadgered
100 and its bollocksed

Kent is one of the few places where the past in terms of traffic is an excellent predictor of the future.

Anybody who tells you they have magically cured the past problems IS LYING

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/09/2019 19:40

There’s a certain ring to standstill-nadgered-bollocksed as a sliding scale of how bad things are. I might suggest we adopt it at work.

I can see us hitting bollocksed very quickly after 31st October.

Clavinova · 29/09/2019 19:51

Iknewwhen

Kent CC mention chemicals in their update;

"A no-deal scenario could disrupt KSS supply of chemicals and consumables manufactured, or part-manufactured, in the EU. To mitigate this, the service purchased, in the lead up to 29 March 2019, the supplies they require to account for a six-month contingency scenario. This level of stock is being maintained for the foreseeable future."

Clavinova · 29/09/2019 19:55

FWIW I lived and worked in East Kent in a past life one lorry jammed in the wrong place can bring whole towns to a standstill,

This might help;

^"Traffic officers will have the power to stop and ask drivers of heavy
commercial vehicles to produce any documents relating to the vehicle’s journey and goods that are being exported. Traffic officers will be able to direct traffic to only use certain roads including the KCC road network, and be able to levy a fine of up to £300 for non-compliance."^

Thenotes · 29/09/2019 19:55

"Most if not all school canteen are run by your local council, they are nothing to do with school budgets."

That's simply not true, in our area, almost all schools have brought catering back in house to give them control over the quality of the menu. Where services are brought in they are paid for from school budgets and if food prices go up, contractors will increase their prices

ListeningQuietly · 29/09/2019 20:21

I'm not sure you understand how roundabouts work .....
a lorry in the wrong place is not magicked away by a traffic officer
it sits there blocking entrances and exits
and then another one does the same

paperwork is not known for cutting through tri axle tilts
