Brexit

Anyone else worried we'll have to go to war with Iran?

Pretty sure we'll end up with a disastrous 'no deal' Brexit. We won't have the solidarity of the EU ,this will mean we have to suck up to Trump and go to war with Iran. Has this crossed anyone else's mind?

OP posts:

@KennDodd

Yep, its crossed my mind a few times. I don't worry about Iran as a particular threat, but I do worry about Russia getting involved if anything does kick off. Trump needs to keep his mouth shut and stop heckling. Fucking idiot.

bellinisurge · 24/09/2019 19:46

Our reputation and influence will be shot to pieces if we no Deal so I doubt anyone would care less about our support or lack of it. The PM has to get parliamentary approval now for military action (law changed after the Iraq war). We didn't go into Syria with US for that reason.

MysteryTripAgain · 25/09/2019 05:45

To OP

Oil price has been low for 4 years. Only a matter of time before a War started in the Middle East to boost prices.

US people I have worked with have often said that US needs wars at regular intervals to get rid of old ammunition.

What has the attack on Saudi got to do with UK's departure from the EU?

bellinisurge · 25/09/2019 05:56

@MysteryTripAgain is in a conflict stoking mood, suggesting civil war on another thread. Maybe they got a new script in the office.

SleepyKat · 25/09/2019 06:40

No, I think the US will do it alone as the U.K. will spend too long wringing their hands about what to do and having vote after vote in the commons without getting anywhere.

Not suggesting anything, but expressing an opinion to the question what happens when parliament ignores the people.

bellinisurge · 25/09/2019 06:53

What country are you in? @MysteryTripAgain

What country are you in? @MysteryTripAgain**

What time zone?
What Country?

Maybe next you will want;

Passport
Birth Certificate
National Insurance Number
Bank Statement

Bellasblankexpression · 25/09/2019 07:06

Hardly the same thing @mysterytripagain Hmm

PotatoShape · 25/09/2019 07:08

Thanks to Blair, the uk has zero interest in getting involved in the affairs of other countries. I, personally, have always felt we stuck our oar in far too much.

NATO is the key player on this, with the UN

EU won't be involved, and I don't actually see the need to involve another organisation.

Brexit won't make any difference to military issues. As a P5, nuclear country we have significantly more powerful alliances than any EU possible future plan.

bellinisurge · 25/09/2019 07:49

Simple question @MysteryTripAgain . Guessing not the UK

bellinisurge · 25/09/2019 07:50

Or the EU. Therefore who cares what you think.

MysteryTripAgain · 25/09/2019 08:00

Simple question @MysteryTripAgain . Guessing not the UK

Guess whatever you wish. No obligation on MN to provide personal details.

Or the EU. Therefore who cares what you think

Nobody is forced to take part in boards such as MN. People choose of their own free will.

If posts made by others express a different view to your own, that is their entitlement. I remember that Bear made that point some time ago about the never ending Bellini crusade for a NI only backstop. Yadid was more direct.

PotatoShape · 25/09/2019 08:01

@bellinisurge , so if not being in the UK means an opinion isn't valid, I guess that we can just leave and not listen to bleating from Europe about how it affects them or us?
Not uk, no opinion, right??

SaskiaRembrandt · 25/09/2019 08:20

I'd say EU citizens are entitled to have an opinion because it does affect them. Australians, Americans and Russians, not so much.

MysteryTripAgain · 25/09/2019 08:22

@PotatoShape

Well said

bellinisurge · 25/09/2019 10:22

Perfectly entitled to have an opinion. Morally obligated to explain that you are giving that opinion from afar without any direct impact on you from Brexit.
Otherwise people will think you are a bot. And we wouldn't want that, would we

PotatoShape · 25/09/2019 10:34

I feel like remainers are morally obligated to state who they work for, and their household income before telling leavers to stay in the EU. After all, it's remainers who are invested in keeping the status-quo.

bellinisurge · 25/09/2019 10:46

Not saying who I work for but I was born and live in the north of the UK. I am a uk citizen. I pay UK tax. I have a deceased Irish born mum. I live in a strong Leave area. I grew up in one of the most deprived northern towns in the country.
I am happy to Leave in a way that protects GFA. Nothing I haven't said several times on here.

PotatoShape · 25/09/2019 10:59

So, you've glossed over how much your household earns. Growing up in a deprived area doesn't mean you yourself were deprived, it's just a sound bite.
Anyone who is happy with the way things are can't understand those who aren't. Maybe be glad that you have been spared the daily grind that has driven the majority of the voters to ask for change.

bellinisurge · 25/09/2019 11:03

Combined household income of £60k per year. Got a problem?

bellinisurge · 25/09/2019 11:05

What part of "I'm happy to leave in a way that doesn't mess up GFA" didn't you get?

bellinisurge · 25/09/2019 11:15

@PotatoShape , why don't you ask your friend @MysteryTripAgain the same questions?
