Germany in Recession

Germany is officially very close to recession, the ECB are starting a QE program. Why is this sort of news kept hush hush but Britain’s bad news even though we are not in a recession is plastered everywhere? While I am a remainer and can see Brexit is causing chaos, it does make me question whether the news is biased towards the EU?

The euro has been called a weak currency for many years now but what does that say about Sterling and the UK economy?
Usually refers to weakness in the structure of the Euro rather than the actual level, i.e. the fact that monetary union is not accompanied by political union, and the reason why they have no choice but to push for ever closer political union as a means to be more robust.

@MeganBacon lol. You seriously think paying bots is paranoia?! It’s a recognised modern dodgy campaigning technique.

madroid · 15/09/2019 07:35

Do you have to pay bots?

leckford · 15/09/2019 07:35

Well they need to keep the U.K. onside over Brexit not make it difficult for people to buy their expensive shiny cars. I think of many problems Trump and his anti China actions are causing them export problems as the Chinese have less cash to spend.

madroid · 15/09/2019 07:36

And is there a bot union?

twofingerstoEverything · 15/09/2019 08:00

for MeganBacon and Madroid
The article above is primarily concerned with Chinese 'commentators', but this, along with bots (automated programmes designed to mimic human commentators) is a worldwide phenomenon. It is just another - very insidious and anonymous - form of propaganda.
If you pay attention, you can see surges of 'online commentator' activity on most forums, including MN. I think you probably already knew that, though.

Thanks for the interesting link. I don't use social media - I only look at online comments from the Times, Guardian and mostly FT, and definitely go nowhere near Facebook - none are bot-free zones but I may be naive because I don't use facebook (and won't).

What I wonder though is what a bot's agenda would be now that the vote is (for the time being at least) decided. Wouldn't it be to create polarisation/civil unrest, to weaken the country generally? Isn't that what happens on these boards when the leavers are always chased away? There are huge numbers of ill informed, opinionated and incendiary posts on these threads so I think Gin96's fairly benign link posting is not really where we should be looking for bots.
But thanks and I take your point.

ChangeOfTides · 15/09/2019 12:55

You probably need to look into what bots do and how they work before commenting. Random number at the end posting links with no actual interaction with other posters and bad grammar is classic bot factory.

twofingerstoEverything · 15/09/2019 17:49

MeganBacon - online comments on those news websites you mention are definitely not a bot-free zone! Cyber manipulation is massive.
